Charles "Chuck" Bush Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 13, 2011.
Charles “Chuck Douglas Bush 1948-2011 Charles Douglas Bush, 62, passed away on April 13, 2011, from complications resulting from two strokes. He was born on July 13, 1948, in Logan, Utah, to Richard Andrew and Muriel Cropper Bush, the third of four children. Charles, who went by Chuck for much of his life, married Junola Smith on Jan. 27, 1972, in the Manti Temple and they were married for more than 39 years. Their son Brian was born in 1975. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chuck served a mission in Finland from 1967 to 1970. He also served in many other church callings including counselor in a bishopric, high priest group leader, stake and ward financial clerk, choir director and temple worker at the Provo Temple. Chuck graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in history in 1973 and with a master's degree in linguistics in 1974. He worked as an educator at BYU for 37 years, focusing on using computers in the humanities. His position gave him the opportunity to attend and present at various conferences throughout North America and Europe. His wife was frequently able to accompany him on these trips and they enjoyed the chance to travel together. Chuck was known for his humor, his attitude of service and his understanding nature, characteristics that helped him be a great father and husband. Family was very important to him and his wife and they often showed their generosity by opening their home for relatives attending school to live with them. He also enjoyed sports, puzzles, games, playing with children, singing, marble runs, traveling, and collecting salt and pepper shakers. Chuck is survived by his wife Junola and son Brian, as well as by his older sister Judith Hurd (Gary) and his younger sister Sylvia Lloyd (Alan). He was preceded in death by his father, mother and his older brother David. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 19, 2011, at the LDS meetinghouse located at 1498 E. 800 South in Provo, Utah. Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Monday, April 18, at the Tribute Center at 85 E. 300 South in Provo from 6-8 p.m. and at the meetinghouse prior to the funeral from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment is at the Provo City Cemetery.
