Our beloved Charles (Chuck) Summers, passed away at age 54 on August 26, 2022 at the University of Georgetown Hospital in Washington, DC.
Charles Summers was born on May 19th 1968 to Jean Robinson- Summers and Charles Edward Bullard. He grew up in Hernando, Mississippi, where his grandparents, Isabella and Harvey Summers, helped raised him. Upon graduating from Hernando High School in Desoto County, Charles enlisted into the United States Navy in 1986. He served with distinction and received many accolades for his dedicated service. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1992, Charles began a career in government service and his scholastic journey. He attended and graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs. He used his military experiences and educational knowledge as a Senior Watch Officer for the U.S. Department of Energy, Intelligence Operations Center in Washington, DC.
In his private life, Charles entertained family, friends and acquaintances with his playful wit, endless charm, and his infectious laughter. He loved the Lord and accepted Christ into his life when he was 13 years old. He had a deep appreciation for the Book of Proverbs, but one of his favorite verses was Galatians 6:7; “Do not be deceived; God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap”. Charles’ most enduring legacy was being a well-spring of wisdom which he often used to comfort and encourage those around him. Our beloved Charles has fought a good fight, finished the race and kept his faith until his last breath.
Charles is survived by his mother, Jean Summers, his brothers, Dedrick Bullard and Kareem Summers, and his sisters, Kesha Gibson, Latasha Robinson, and Tomika L. Roberts and nieces and a nephew Shantaneese Webber, Tyler Mone’t Patterson, Jada Webber, Zion Olijade Richards. A Celebration of Life will be held at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. The address is 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA 20176.

I met Charles thru my son and daughter; Sean and Deven McEwan , I found him to be such a sweet and kindhearted person. His warm smile lighten up any room that he entered. He also acted as a fun uncle to my two grandsons; Seven and Myles. I am deeply sadden to know that his sunshine spirit has left us, but will hold on to the positive memories of him that will live on forever.

Chuck, you were one of a kind. Your style of dress, the projection with your deep voice, your way of thinking, your jovial laugh. I’ve been deeply blessed of being your friend. I know you love my family and I because you told me. And I’m glad I told you that I love you. I miss you, my friend but I know with the suffering you experience the last three years, on Aug 25. we lost you but you receive your wings and heard God’s voice, “Job will done, my son”. So now, until I see you again, I will rejoice in knowing you are in God’s hands.

Charles,
While our time working together was short it was no less meaningful. You were not only my colleague but you were also my friend. Every day without you in our lives is a little bit less joyous as you brought so much to our team in so many different ways. You were one of the most optimistic and kind people I've ever met. We will miss having you light up the office with your jokes and laughter. You will be forever remembered and I am so thankful for the time I did get to share with you.

Chuck was a phenomenal man, a true friend and a faithful follower of God. We met in Albuquerque when I was working at a local restaurant and brewery. He took an interest in me and saw my yet untapped potential. The result was a friendship, mentorship, and brotherhood that forever changed my life. I am indebted to Chuck for his wisdom, his grace, and his love. Rarely do we meet the kind of people who give of themselves as service to others. Chuck was such a human. He had the "sight" that enabled him to see what makes other people special. Anyone who's had the opportunity to meet Chuck and to talk with him knew just how special he was. He will be deeply missed.

Charles,
It was truly a pleasure knowing and working with you in the "Comm Center". As noted by everyone, talking to you during our many conversations was full of wisdom and many laughs, never to be forgotten: "Never settle for the low hanging fruit". You are a true original. Your joyous spirit brought a smile to all. You will definitely be missed in IN and DOE as a whole. Prayers and Peace to your family and friends during this difficult time.

On behalf of my son Dedrick Bullard and his father. Andre will always be in our hearts.
We enjoyed our time spent with him and remembered the fun we shared. His father was always joking about how much he Dedrick and Kesha ate. His dad whom they called "Bull" kept them laughing all the time.
He was truly loved and he will always be in my heart.
Love
Sharon your other Mom!
