Charles Cliff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 7, 2025.
Charles Ellsworth "Chick" Cliff, 88, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, in Pompano Beach, Florida. Charles was deeply loved by his family and friends, known for his honesty, humility and quiet strength.

Charles was born in Akron Ohio on October 1, 1936 to Jess and Gladys Cliff. He grew up in Akron and graduated from Ellet High School. After graduation, he set off to see the country and traveled to California where he met the love of his life Starr Anne Schneider. While in California, he joined the United States Marine Corps serving his country with honor. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and completed an overseas tour in the Philippines. His time in the military instilled in him a strong sense of discipline and commitment that would guide him throughout his life.

Following his service, Charles and Starr were married and returned to Ohio, settling in Mogadore. He became an apprentice with Frank Brown Construction and joined Bricklayers Union Local #7. He built a distinguished career as a mason. He worked for many years with Frank Brown Construction before founding his own company, C. Cliff Construction. Under his leadership, the business flourished and became known for its quality workmanship and reliability. Charles was responsible for numerous notable construction projects throughout the Akron area. He also built two beautiful brick homes for his family - both in his favorite pink brick.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was an active member of the Mogadore Jaycees for many years and served as President of the organization. During his tenure, he earned several awards and accolades in recognition of his leadership and service.

Charles cherished time spent with those closest to him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years Starr, sons Martin and David Cliff and daughter Carole Kinkopf (Ken); grandsons Steven (Brittany), Andrew (Kaylie), Ryan (Maddie) Cliff; Michael, Matthew (Emmy) & Jonathan Kinkopf; granddaughter Mia and her mother Diana Cliff; great-grandsons Oliver, Cooper, Jeremy and Teddy Cliff. He is also survived by his brother Jack Cliff and sister Neljean Shultz (John).

He found joy in the simple things - especially in time spent on the golf course. Starr was a favorite golf partner and they won several events as a couple. When he wasn't on the golf course he was with his beloved wife Starr. They were constant companions and traveled not only all over the United States but many locations around the world.

Charles will be remembered for his easy going spirit, his unfailing work ethic and his love of living life. His warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 28, 2025, from 03:00 PM to 07:00 PM at Sunny Hill Golf Club 3734 Sunnybrook Road Kent, OH. The family invites all family and friends to join them in celebrating their beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather. In loving memory of Charles, donations may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Starr, Carole, Marty and David... I´m so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and father. He seemed to be the calmness in the craziness of the last few years. I know he will be truly missed by not only each and every one of you but also by the community of friends. Love and Prayers Julie Evans Jordan
