Charles Cooper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 29 to Jan. 30, 2009.
COOPER Charles W. Cooper III was unexpectedly welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the age of 31. He was born on April 12, 1977, in Marrero, Louisiana, and graduated from Archbishop Shaw High School in the Class of 1995. Having been in several popular touring bands since his teen years, and having strong musical intuitions, Charlie formed Telefon Tel Aviv with his friend, Joshua Eustis in 1999, to explore his deep love for music and his desire to share it with the world. As one half of Telefon Tel Aviv, Charlie released two full length LP's with Hefty Records in Chicago, IL and one LP with BPitch Control in Berlin, as well as countless remixes and production work for other artists, and a film score for Miramax/Disney. He performed in countless countries from one side of the globe to the other, and was a highly regarded pioneer in electronic music, inspiring many. Having been a transplant to Chicago since 2000, he never ceased his yearning for New Orleans, and specifically the Westbank, the home he loved so dearly. He was a loving friend and a confidant to people from all corners of the world. His singular musical genius was surpassed only by his greater gifts to the world - his warmth, his generosity, his unquenchable humor, and his undying loyalty to those whom he loved. He was the son of the late Charles W. Cooper. He is survived by his dear mother, Elizabeth Cooper Hill, his stepfather Mr. Clifton G. Hill, his sister Jacqueline Cooper-Abbot, and his loving niece and nephew, Lilyanna and Luke Abbot. He is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins in the Cooper and Rivera families as well as his dear Godmother, Jane Cambre. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Visitation at WESTSIDE/ LEITZ-EAGAN FUNERAL HOME, 5101 West-bank Expressway, Marrero, LA on Saturday, January 31, 2009 from 8:00 AM until 11:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 4401 Seventh St., Marrero, LA at 12:00 noon. Interment in St. Pius X Cemetery, Crown Point, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Archbishop Shaw High School, Attention: Fr. Jim, 1000 Barataria Blvd., Marrero, LA 70072 would be appreciated by the family. Charlie was the original "supafly". He entertained and influenced many people I grew up around. If you were a teenager into playing live music on the westbank you knew Charlie. I have found memories of Charlie. He had an incredible stage presence that was just a reflection of his personality. Jackie you and your family have my condolences.

My condolences on the loss of Charlie. He was my eldest son's age, and used to hang around with many of the same folks. I saw him over the holidays at a friend's house and enjoyed talking with him. Please accept my prayers for him and the family.
