Charles Corio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 5 to May 7, 2009.
Charles (Ignazio) N. "Nudgio" Corio, 77, died peacefully under the loving and compassionate care at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY, after a courageous battle with cancer. Charles was born March 22, 1932 to Italian immigrant parents, Giuseppe and Maria (Pitrone) Corio. He was the youngest of twelve children and the last remaining son of the Corio children.Charles leaves behind his wife of fifty-three years, Rose Marie (DeSantis) Corio; a daughter Mary (fiancé Bob Cook) Corio; a son, Joseph and daughter-in-law, Gina (Gonzalez) Corio, both of Niagara Falls, NY; five loving grandchildren by age, Edward J. Grudzinski, Jr., Charles A., Maria T. and Joseph A. Corio. He was predeceased by his baby sister, Annie Corio; sisters, Sarah (late Peter) Inzana, Minnie (late Paul) Gamrat (late Tony) Poyle, Annie (late Andrew) Valrosa; brothers, Jack (late Betty), Frank (Goldie of Cambria, PA) Anthony (late Anita) and Louis (Kitty) Corio. He leaves three surviving sisters Mary (late John) Collins of Cartersville, GA, Agnes (late George) Konitsky of Cambria, PA and Katie (Joseph) Gerlesky of Olanta, PA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, many special friends; and his loving pets, Blackie and Bubbles. Charles was born in the lustrous green hills of Spangler, PA and grew up in the adjoining town of Barnesboro, PA. He left his home at the young age of sixteen to serve in the U.S. Army from December 8, 1952 until his honorable discharge on December 7, 1954. His service brought him to Niagara Falls, NY, where he met and married his wife on May 5, 1956. He was a member of the American Legion in Belmont, NY. Charles retired from Keyser Cadillac in Williamsville, NY, where he was employed as an auto body repairman. His favorite 'holiday' would go down in history of being 'opening day of deer season,' for which he spent most of the year preparing. He was passionate and devoted to the great outdoors, hunting and fishing, and spent many happy hours at his hunting cabin in Angelica, NY. He enjoyed teaching younger generations how to hunt and fish and his love for living each day to the fullest, inspired all who came to know him. Charles was also a member of the American Legion in Belmont, NY. Charles will be undeniably remembered for being outspoken, sharp witted, gregarious, enthusiastic, alluring and often referred to as the "life of the party." He will be fondly regarded for his generosity, his reliability, dependability and availability to consistently be the first on the scene to help a friend in need. A man with beautiful eyes and an endearing spirit, Charles will be dearly missed by a multitude of friends and family. He enjoyed fixing things, tinkering with small engines to rehabilitate lawn mowers and snow blowers and restoring damaged vehicles. He loved the outdoors and spent many memorable hours at his hunting cabin and unforgettable times with friends and family. In keeping with Italian traditions, every year Charles harvested an abundance of tomatoes, swiss chard, basilica, garlic, onions, cucumbers and zucchinis. Many family members still enjoy the last batch of home-made wine and make our toast to celebrate the life of Charles Corio. Friends may call on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI and SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where funeral services will begin on Friday, May 8th at 9:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment with Military Honors will be held in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria, NY. Visit www.mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for on-line guest register.

Rose,Joe & Mary,
I just learned this week of the passing of Charlie. My heart goes out to you! Charlie was a good man!! He was my hunting mentor. If it wasn't for him, I would never have started hunting. Like Charlie, hunting is one of the most important things in my life. I can't imagine not hunting. For this I thank him from the bottom of my heart! Charlie had many friends and it was obvious to see that especially come hunting season when you would always find many of his friends at camp. Charlie was always willing to help out others, especially my dad by allowing him to live on his property at the camp for all those years. Charlie was my dad's best friend!! I'm sure Charlie and my dad are sitting together along with all those who have passed before him talking about the good old days smoking a cigar or two and drinking a shot :). I am very thankful and honored to have known Charlie. May he rest in peace.

Good ole Uncle Nudz - he could turn a cloudy day into a sunny one just with his laughter. The Corio Family reunions won't be the same without him. He taught us how to be happy without a lot of material things. He was my LAST Uncle and I will miss him.

I feel very fortunate to have had Uncle Nugzio in my life. I loved listening to his phylosophy on life. He made everything seem funny, but he was really a wise man. I know my Mom in heaven is feeling sad for all of us; but I'm sure she is going to be happy to have her baby brother with her again. I feel sorry for all the deer in heaven, they don't stand a chance now!
He is one person I will never forget!
God Bless all of you.

Daddy, I love you so much. I know that I will have to learn to start walking all over again on this planet without you - like you helped teach me to walk when I was a little girl. My world is too quiet without you and I will never forget you. Every day of my life, I will continue to try and make you proud by being honest and giving like you always were to me. You instilled in me many good qualities, and I ask that you wait for me Dad. We'll all be together again one day, and I know you're up there with the family. I hope you and Uncle Jack and Uncle Frank and all the brothers are able to fish and hunt and never feel pain or illness anymore. You struggled dad, and you fought til the end. God apparently had another purpose for you, and although I can't figure out what it was when we needed you too, I do trust Him dad. Eventually, He will reveal His reasons. For now, it hurts alot. Please look down upon us dad, and let us know you are OK. I was always OK when you were OK. It can be that way again... Dad I just love you so much.... We'll take care of mom for you.
