BRAZIL — Charles Edward Deal, 77, of Brazil, died at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in Holly Hill Healthcare in Brazil. Ed was born on Sept. 9, 1930, in Knightsville, the son of Paul C. and Minnie Campbell Deal. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 until 1955. He married Margaret Ann Evans, on Sept. 6, 1953, and she preceded him in death, on Oct. 28, 2006. He worked at Hedge Motor Company as a salesman and bookkeeper and then at the Riddell National Bank as vice-president of Lending until his retirement.Ed was an active member of the Brazil Rotary Club for 25 years, the Gideon Society, Knightsville Masonic Lodge, where he had served as secretary, and the El Shaddai Emmaus Community, where he had participated in Walk 16. He enjoyed playing golf and had served on the Brazil Golf Course Board for several years. He attended the Carbon Baptist Church and had served as the Knightsville Town Clerk for several years. He also was a member of the first Clay Building Trades board of directors. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Ann Deal; two brothers, Robert and William Deal; and one brother-in-law, Hubert Wyndham.Survivors include his five children, Teresa Jenkins and husband Mark of Indianapolis, Jim Deal and wife Kathy and Jeff Deal and wife Crystal, all of Brazil, Joe Deal and wife Monica of Indianapolis and Angie Modesitt and husband Jeff of Brazil; grandchildren, Amanda Groce, Katie Jenkins, Sarah Jenkins, Andrew Jenkins, Suzanne Olsen, Jana Deal, Evan Deal, David Deal, Abloy Kilzer, Amber Slater, Alex Modesitt and Stephen Modesitt; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Dylan and Ezra Groce, Camdyn Cooper and Peyton Slater; two sisters, Betty Reckerd and husband Milo of Fayetteville, N.C., and Francie Bieker and husband Bill of Brazil; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Deal of Terre Haute and Mildred Zambenini; and 36 nieces and nephews and their families.Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, in Moore Funeral Home, 142 N. Washington St., in Brazil, with burial to follow in Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
