Charles Frentheway Obituary

Published by East Valley Tribune on Dec. 24, 2005.
Charles Jay Frentheway died Tuesday morning, December 20, 2005, while at work in the Emergency Room at Cobre Valley Hospital in Globe, Arizona. The harness of this life was removed from him sometime between 4:00 A.M. and 7:00 A.M. while he was resting in the doctor's suite. His untimely death has been a shock to all of his family and friends. Charles Jay Frentheway (Chuck or Uncle Chuckie as he was called by many of his family) was born in Rawlins, Wyoming, June 23, 1947. He was the son of Charles Jake Frentheway and Gladys Louise (Lauver) Frentheway. He was raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he was and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, attended Henderson Grade School, Carey Jr. High, and graduated from East High School in 1965. He attended Brigham Young University receiving his B.S. in Zoology; he married Kathleen Andersen Frentheway August 1, 1970; then attended the Universidad de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico, and received his M.D. from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, in 1974. Chuck and Kathy have, and he is survived by three children: Matthew Jacob Frentheway his wife Melissa and their four sons Kreed, Dawson, Ryker and Beau, Rachael Bree (Frentheway) Ice and her husband Jonathon, and Zane Samuel Frentheway. After graduating from Creighton, Chuck served in the USAF at Malcolm Grow Hospital at Andrews Air base in Washington DC. He was named Flight Surgeon of the year for the Air Training Command in 1976 while stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Big Springs, Texas. He was then transferred to Warren Air Force base in Cheyenne and served as a Family Practice Physician at the Base Hospital there. After being discharged from the Air Force, Chuck began working for EMP Corporation where he worked the Emergency Rooms at DePaul Hospital in Cheyenne, Deadwood S.D.; Sheridan, Wyoming; Pasco, Washington; and Ivanson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, Wyoming. While in Cheyenne Chuck served in many capacities and positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, worked as a supervising physician and medical attendant at Cheyenne Frontier Days, and coached soccer and wrestling. In 1990 Chuck and his family moved to Yuma, Arizona where he served the people of the Yuma area at the Yuma County Regional Hospital Emergency Room. In 1993, the Frentheways moved to Gilbert, Arizona, and he worked at the Desert Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room and Cobre Valley Hospital in Globe, Arizona, where he was at the time of his death. Chuck always sacrificed his time, resources and talents unselfishly whether convenient or inconvenient. He gave his service without expectations of any return or commitment from the receiver. His life was a true example of unpretentious Christian ideals, which he lived and taught. His gentle touch and loving concern for all of his family, friends, patients and acquaintances was a true example of Christ-like love. We should follow his example. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Charlotte Anne Frentheway and his father and mother, Charles Jake Frentheway and Gladys Louise (Lauver) Frentheway. A viewing will be held on Monday, Decemer 26, 2005, at the Cullumber Ward Building, 220 E. Cullumber, Gilbert, Arizona. Viewing hours will be from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held for Uncle Chuckie, December 30, 2005, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 309 Western Hills Blvd., Cheyenne, Wyoming, at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at the Frentheway Family cemetery, 5 miles west of I-25 on Horse Creek Rd., Cheyenne, Wyoming. Meldrum Mortuary handled the arrangements. Mrs.Frentheway and family,

I worked with your husband at CVCH for 9 years. He was such a special person. He cared so much for the community and showed sympathy for all. What I remember most is the beautiful words he wrote after he pronounced someone, each saying was different and unique for that person. The doctor will be greatly missed. May the Lord bless each of you.

Chuck and D-1 were my Home Teachers when I was struggling with depression many years ago. They were the epitome of what home teaching is all about. He responded to phone calls at times I thought convenient, then would discover he had just pulled an all nighter in the ER.

My love to your wonderful family.

I had to take my Granddaughter to the ER and Dr. Frentheway was the physician on that day. Dr Frentheway was so kind and considerate to her feelings, being 9 years old and not feeling well it was pretty scary for her. He not only showed all the compassion but the great knowledge of the proper care for her. About 9:30 PM I received a call from Dr. Frentheway to check on how my Granddaughter was feeling, now that is a special kind person to do that and that is what Dr. Frentheway was.

I was treated by Dr. Frentheway many times in the ER here... He was the only Doctor ive ever seen that has treated me with such kindness. He truely was an angel and this loss will be felt throughout this community and others im sure, for a very long time to come. God bless
