Charles S. Galante, 85, of Pittston Twp., passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, at his home surrounded by his large extended family and with Frank Sinatra playing in the background.
Known by all who knew him as "Charlie," he was born June 4, 1936, at the family homestead in Pittston, to the late Sam and Frances Mangiaruga Galante.
Charles was a graduate of Pittston Twp. High School, Class of 1954. Following high school, he immediately joined the U.S. Army where he served his country proudly. Upon his return home, Charlie worked as an auto mechanic before taking a job with PennDOT, where he remained employed for the remainder of his professional career as a mechanic. While at PennDOT, he was instrumental in bringing the AFSCME union to Pennsylvania and served as president of the local chapter AFSCME council 13 for many years. However, his greatest achievement was his love and devotion of family and all those he loved as family.
Charles was a life member of the former St. Rocco's Roman Catholic Church, Pittston, now St. Joseph Marello Parish.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Caroline Gubino.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Ann Galante, whom he married in Feb. of 1958; son, Salvatore Galante; daughter, Rose and husband, Mike Morkavage; granddaughters, Maria and husband, Jeremy Bicking; Sara Galante; great-grandchildren, Gia, Daphne, Vinny and Penelope; his niece, Kathy Brennan, who held a special place in his heart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the nurses and staff of Bayada Hospice, Dr. Fenster, Dr. Mauer Biscotti and a special thanks to Dr. Charles Manganiello for the excellent care they provided Charlie with over the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie's name to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html, or Jack of Hearts PA Inc. at https://jackofheartspa.org.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday from Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Twp. with the Rev. Paul McDonnell, O.S.J., officiating.
Viewing hours will be held from 11 a.m. to service time. Interment will be held privately at the family's convenience.

In my youth, Charlie and his Dad Sam often visited our Bronx home and we the homes of our Pittston cousins. Charlie, like his father, valued our family connections and for this I remain forever grateful.
I often reflect with fond memories, of those early times.

I send my sincere sympathy to Ann and all of Charlie's beloved family. Charlie showed his love through his many acts of kindness and his quiet behind the scenes actions. He helped my dad Vincent and Connie's life to be more meaningful. His heart was like a gentle giant of sort sooo sooo big. I'll always be grateful for a cousin who treated my family as his immediate household with his time, love, and energy. In my eyes he holds a special place of honor and respect. I am thankful for the time we had together. RIP Charlie you will be missed.
Cousin Anna Galante McCrone L.I.

I will always remember Charlie as a cousin that really cared about his family. I was a long distance trucker and when ever I was in the Pittston area Charlie would pick me up at the local truck stop and take to his house where Ann had a nice italian dinner for us to enjoy. I will remember him as a great family man.
