Charles Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 20, 2025.
Charles Thomas "Chuck" Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas.

Born on October 8, 1936, in Chanute, Kansas, Chuck was the son of Fred and Hazel Johnson. He graduated from Chanute High School in 1955 and continued his education at Chanute Junior College, later earning a Industrial Engineering degree from Kansas State University in 1961.

Chuck proudly served in the National Guard before embarking on a distinguished career with the United States Air Force as a civil servant. His expertise in industrial engineering took him to Wright-Patterson AFB, Amori AFB in Misawa, Japan, and Hickam AFB in Honolulu, Hawaii. He later transitioned into business administration and finance roles at Scott AFB and Randolph AFB before concluding his career at the Pentagon, retiring in December 1999 after nearly four decades of dedicated service.

On July 11, 1963, Chuck married Phyllis Johnson, with whom he shared a loving and enduring partnership for 61 years. Together they raised two children: Lorie Johnson and Eric Johnson. Though Eric preceded him in death, Chuck's legacy continues through his daughter Lorie; granddaughter Brooke Albrecht; and grandson Hunter Albrecht and his fiancée Michelle.

Chuck was deeply committed to his faith throughout his life. A lifelong attendee of Southern Baptist churches, he was an active member of Northwest Park Baptist Church in San Antonio. His devotion extended beyond the pews-he participated in numerous mission trips to Africa, Romania, and Alaska where he helped build churches and orphanages. Among family and friends, he was affectionately known as "Pastor Chuck," a testament to both his spiritual leadership and generous spirit.

A man of many passions, Chuck found joy in dirt track racing where he co-owned and sponsored his son's race team, and was a regular at Hagerstown and Winchester Speedways. He was also an avid NASCAR fan who rarely missed a race. When not at the track watching cars roar by, he could often be found fishing or cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.

Chuck was revered for his no-nonsense demeanor, beautifully complemented by his incredibly giving heart. He took immense pride in his family's farming heritage and legacy. His strong work ethic coupled with a joyous positive attitude for life, left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Evelyn Johnson Boan, Dwayne Johnson, Larry Johnson, and Arlene Johnson Taylor; and his beloved son Eric.

May Charles Thomas Johnson's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of kindness and faithfulness for generations to come. A Memorial Service will be held on August 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Northwest Park Baptist Church 8550 Bowens Crossing St in San Antonio, TX with a reception immediately following.
