Charles J. Krzan Sr., 99, of Dunmore, died Wednesday evening in VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen T. Puhalla, on Oct. 8, 2011.

Born in Blakely, son of the late Joseph and Mary Wajnarvwska Krzan and stepson of the late Mary Skiba Krzan, he was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore and its Holy Name Society, and served as a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. Before retirement, he was employed by the Tobyhanna Army Depot. He served as president of the All Saints Slovak Cemetery Association in Hollisterville for many years, having dedicated many hours of service. He also served as cubmaster to Pack 99 in Dunmore.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Anna Britz, Helen Kardel and Bertha Szczepanek; and brothers, Adam, John, Anthony, Frank and Jacob Krzan.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment with military honors will follow at the All Saints Slovak Cemetery, Hollisterville.

I'm sorry for your loss. Your Dad was a great guy. I'm sorry I didn't see this until today. Whenever I think of All Saints Church, or cemetery, I always think of Charlie Krzan.

Dear Charles and Bernie: our sincere and deepest sympathy to you and your
family. Uncle Charlie was a kind and giving man. He taught us so many
things, including his experiences from the mechanical jobs he held, his
knowledge of cars, and about his life in general. We imagine him now in a
garage up above giving orders and enjoying what he liked to do best,
including watching over all those he loved through his lifetime. He will be
missed by everyone that knew him. Joseph Krzan, Sr. and Family.

Bernie, Cathy, Mark and Emily: I am so glad to have heard the stories of a good and simple man. We can see those values in your family and to me, that is the greatest honor to your father and grandfather. May he rest in peace and may you feel God's peace as well.
