CHARLES KUSHNER Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 25, 2011.
KUSHNER CHALRES J.
72, of Harmony, PA, our husband, father, and friend began his next big adventure on Saturday, April 23, 2011. Born on July 6, 1938, he was a Wexford native and truly one of a kind. Charles enjoyed many things in life, cars, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and being outdoors. He was a horseman, farmer, hunter and fan of travel. His adventures took him to far flung destinations in Central America and South Africa. But he was especially passionate about the everyday things, good food, reading, music, and his dogs, Wirehaired Pointing Griffons. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962. Charles was Catholic by faith, a member of Holy Redeemer parish. He was a member of the American Wirehaired Pointing Griffons Association, Pittsburgh Farmers Market Association for over 20 years, and also worked at the Butler Auto Auction. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Wassil Kushner, his in laws, William and Betty Ammann, and a son in law, Timothy Gardner. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jaqueline Ammann Kushner; his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Denise Kushner; and four children, Elizabeth (Barry) Freed, Katherine Gardner, Mark Kushner, and Susan (David) Jay; six grandchildren, Christopher and Jacob Freed, Lucas and Dylan Gardner, Leah Kushner, and Cassidy Slivensky; one great-granddaughter, Ali Gardner; two nephews and one niece and extended family. He will be fondly missed and affectionately remembered because of and despite all of his shenanigans and stubbornness. We will tell his tales for years to come. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday April 26, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-9 at the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. A mass of Christian burial will be held at the Holy Redeemer Church on April 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, New Sewickley Twp. Remember Charles by making a donation to the Ellwood City Public Library, Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117. Online condolences may be sent to

Dear Jackie and family:
We were so sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. I will never forget his sage advice, his smile and the opportunity he extended to me to really get going with Griffs. I know it is an incredible loss to you and your family - but also, a tremendous loss to his Griffon family. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Mrs Kushner and family,
So sorry to hear of Chucks passing. He and my grandfather (Harold Ackerman) were old buddies. I remember fondly the stories of their hunting trips. He and my grandpap had some good times, I'm sure they are now too. Please know your in my thoughts and prayers.

Take comfort that Chuck is now with his beloved girffons at the eternal dog show taking a break to go hunting. I will so miss our conversations and debates. Chuck truly was a light beam of truth in this crazy world. He will be missed terribly. Carol & Jim Ptak and the griffons

We will always be grateful to Charlie and Jackie for trusting us with our Molly (their Sally) and giving us a chance as her second owners. We will regret having had so little time to know him but did not need anymore to know that he was truly a prince so honest and dedicated to his griffons.

Jackie and family,
My family and I want to express our deepest sympathy. Charlie was truly one of a kind. The boys always looked forward to a dog event that included him. I always new his opinions would be truthful and accurate...never sugar-coated! He will be greatly missed.
