Charles Ronald Lamar Sr., affectionately known as "Ronnie," was born on February 21, 1956 in
Queens, NY to the late Charles and Dorothy Lamar. Ronnie was reverently proud that his family roots traced back to Barbados, on his maternal side. His spirit joined the Lord on the early morning of March 14, 2023.
As a young man Ronnie joined the Boy Scouts, attended judo classes and played the trumpet in his neighborhood band. He loved to ride his bike with his school friends, including Anthony, Lisa and Mic.
Raised in the Brethren Church, Ronnie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior under the late Bro. Willoughby Waithe. Later in life, Ronnie joined Union Baptist Church in
Hempstead, NY under the late Rev. Clinton C. Boone.
Ronnie was an active member in the Male Chorus where he enjoyed participating in their annual trip to South Carolina. During these trips, one of the most special memories for Ronnie was being able to share time with the late Bro. Johnny Neal.
Ronnie attended NYC Public schools and graduated from Brooklyn Tech in 1974. After advancing from high school his uncle, Carl C. Burnett, known as "Carl Carl," took Ronnie under his wing - and from there, Ronnie's enthusiasm for the funeral business began. In 1978 he graduated from the McAllister School of Mortuary Science where he received his Funeral Director's License.
Ronnie was introduced to the love of his life Alana in 1980 by his friend the late Robert Houston Jr. The couple were wed in 1982, and to this union five beautiful children were born. He cherished and treasured each child; Erica, Bianca, Charles, Haile, and Jaeda.
In 1983, Ronnie was accepted into the New York City Police Academy. He served in the department until 1986 when he returned to his love of funeral service arrangement planning. He eventually joined the Masonic brotherhood.
Ronnie was overjoyed when he learned he was going to be a first-time grandfather. On September 12, 2018, Ronnie welcomed his new grandson August to the family. The bond between August and "Papa" grew to be undeniable. They shared a love for learning about animals, especially dinosaurs and dogs. Ronnie also enjoyed spending time with his family and man's-best-pal Bo, and always welcomed others to celebrate special occasions.
Ronnie had a big heart. He befriended those who needed comfort during good and bad times. Ronnie impacted many with his kind words and humble spirit, and could always be heard saying "don't sweat the small stuff." Many may say Ronnie was quiet and reserved but those who knew Ronnie well knew that he was a comedian and a storyteller. His authentic love for a variety of musical genres exemplified his colorful personality. His interests spanned from jazz and rock-and-roll to soul and the newest hip hop. He especially loved The Beatles.
Ronnie also enjoyed spending time with his sisters in
Charlotte, NC and his daughters in the DC area.
Ronnie will be joined in eternity by his parents and sister Beverly. He leaves to preserve his memory his loving wife; Alana (
Freeport, NY), Four beautiful daughters; Erica (Alexandria, VA), Bianca and son-in-law Brian (Hyattsville, MD), Haile, and Jaeda (
Freeport, NY) and one beloved son; Charles (
Freeport, NY), one grandchild; August, two sisters; Renee and brother-in-law Darold (
Charlotte, NC), and Denise, and brother-in-law Vance (
Charlotte, NC), as well as his dear friends; the Aydelott family, Cyrus (
