Chuck - You were one talented guy. Between computers, watches and the occasional comment on Ford T-Birds, you really showed your knowledge. You helped me find watches and even helped mediate tough deals. You knew where the Grails were hidden...on earth. Now that you are up there...let us know if they let us take our watches with us.
Godspeed, Chuck.

Chuck was the kind of guy who was there for a total stranger, wanting nothing in return. I am so saddened by his loss. My condolences to his family. He didn't know me from Adam, but was ready to answer whatever questions I had on speedmasters. He was the kind of person you just knew was good. The kind of person who shared his knowledge and his passions. That's very rare in this world. Rest in peace, Chuck. Go with God.-- W. Pressley

Deepest sympathy to the Maddox family and close friends.

As so often has been written, I am another who never met Chuck in person, but to whom he was exceptionally generous with his knowledge and advice.

It's clear that the news of his passing has struck many of us beyond the simple proportion of our acquaintance.

It speaks volumes about the kind of man he was. He will be truly missed.

Charlie will always hold a special place in my memories. He was a core member of an extended group of friends that grew up together in St. Charles. A great bear of a man, who had a caring and kind interior. He had much to offer the world; a subtle perfection in things that mattered to him. I last spoke with him only a couple of weeks ago. I wish he could have been with us just a little while longer...

As another member of the WUS community, I can say it was an honor to have shared some of the same interests with Chuck. He was incredibly generous with his time and knowledge, and was a sincerely genuine & positive leader in our small community. We were lucky to have shared our passion for watches & life with Chuck. We will all miss him. Our sincerest condolences on your loss.

Hi Chuck, we have never communicated, yet you have being an inner mentor to me through your contribution of knowledge and passions. You brought me into the WOW and my first Seamaster. I am grateful that through you, I appreciate not only watches but the way of life, is not just being a limited edition or the materialistic value of it, it’s the inner that driven everything. I pray you rest in peace, Sir.

A huge loss that's tough to put into words. Yesterday morning we learned that Chuck passed away during the night. I considered Chuck a good friend for the last 8 years or so. Regular email, the occasional phone call ...

It's still hard to believe. The man was a friend, legend, and gentleman.

God bless you, Chuck, and rest in peace, my friend. You are one of the good guys and won't be forgotten. ;-(

When I researched information on the timepiece given to me by my father, Chuck's websites became an uncomparable source of knowledge and comfort. It took me over a year to muster up the courage to contact him. That was one month ago today. Despite it being Tax Day, and his admission of "suffering from 1040-effected Tourettes" Chuck answered all my questions. It was a real thrill!

My sincere condolences to Chuck's family. He will be genuinely missed by many, many people around the globe.

Chuck was a true Gentleman. Never having met him, I sought out his help on an Omega issue and he gave of his time unstintingly. His articles were a genuine delight for me to discover and I have never heard an unkind word about him and his freely given knowledge to many of us less informed about our mutual Watch Passion.

Genuinely a very special person.
It is truely amazing that Chuck touched so many people- I don't think any of us realized what a generous man he was, time and knowledge freely dispensed to anyone and everyone.
My first thought was that submitting this over the internet was impersonal, then I realized that this is how so very many people came to know Chuck, and he them. I half expect to see numerous responses scattered throughout these messages! There was always so much in a "Chuck response".
Thank you, I wish we could have met in person.

May you be resting with our Lord.

I first got to "know" Chuck back in the early years of Timezone, mainly because he NEVER neglected to help me when I required some obscure bit of Speedy trivia. His amazing work really turned me on to the wonderful world of watches, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

It is amazing that I should feel such a sense of loss for somebody I never met in person, but I feel I knew him anyway...

Let me add my name to what is already a long list of people that Chuck touched in some way - just a terrific guy, I will miss his energy terribly.

Although I never met Chuck, I will sorely miss him. We often talked on the phone or via the internet. We exchanged ideas, presents, music & humour.

He sent my Son a present for his 5th Birthday & when he knew I was visiting the USA on business, he sent some "Nascar" car tins with toffees in them for my son to my hotel.

There was seemingly no limit to this amazing mans generousity, patience, quest for knowledge, kindness, humour .......

I know he would be embaressed by the thousands of messages being written & sent all around the world, celebrating his life & the enourmous & positive contribution he has made to thousands of people all over the globe.

As human beings we are all unique and irreplaceable, but this is especially true with you, Chuck. You were the one and only.
Your hunger for knowledge, incredible and enviable work capacity, but especially your unconditional willingness to help others, made you one of the most irreplaceable people I have ever met.

You have taught us all a lesson with your life example that goes way beyond all the details of all the vintage chronographs or Macs in the world.

I look at your life and I ask God that I may serve others and take advantage of all that I have been given one tenth of what you did. Then, I know I will be all right.

We don’t take any material possessions with us to the grave. We go the same we came, naked. We do however take all the good things we have done for others big or small, and you Chuck, it seems to me like you were helping people all day long. You are taking your endless good deeds with you to heaven. And your legacy is our example.

Only the Good die young!

We will miss you every day.

Proud and honored to be your friend,

Nick Gabarro

Chuck was always willing to help others. An expert in the field of chronographs and an inspiration to others, yet at the same time very modest, he considered himself a student rather than the master he undoubtedly was. Chuck was a great friend for me as well as a someone with humor, knowledge, intelligence and spot on in many of his analysis. He was an asset for many watches forums where he used to post and even moderate. Omega, Heuer and other brands, he knew most of them and never missed an opportunity to show us what were the interesting timepieces produced by these brands. Many consider Chuck as an OMEGA and Heuer as well as chronograph guru, I think it is right because he helped many people with his knowledge and was always willing to share it.
Chuck, you will be dearly missed.
