Memorial service for Charles Shawn McCurdy will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, Canton Christian Church, Canton, with Reverend Steve Driskall officiating. Burial will follow at Canton Cemetery next to his great-grandparents Charles and Cleo Reed. Shawn, as the family called him, died Thursday Jan. 29 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of 44.Shawn was the son of Floyd and Rita Carol (Hicks) McCurdy. He was born June 3, 1964, in Oklahoma City. Shawn lived in California and moved to Claremore in 1976 with his family. He attended grade school at Tiawah and later at Sequoyah School, graduating from Sequoyah.Shawn moved to Dallas in 1996 where he was a painter. He moved back to Claremore in 2006. Shawn liked to buy and restore antique furniture. It was his special hobby. Shawn was very close to his family enjoying all the trips, fishing and camping, the family took. He was especially close to his three brothers, whom he loved so much. Shawn loved the Lord Jesus Christ and had read and studied the Bible from beginning to end. He had a very loving and compassionate heart. He loved people and all the animals.Shawn was preceded in death by his grandfather Robert Hicks Sr., his grandparents Roscoe and Lillian McCurdy, special great-grandmother Cleo Reed and great-great-grandmother Ora Garl.He is survived by his parents Floyd and Rita Carol McCurdy of Claremore; his three brothers: Freddie McCurdy of Langley, Eric McCurdy and wife Lisa of Claremore, and Christopher McCurdy of Dallas; niece, Sarah McCurdy of Claremore; nephew Tyler McCurdy of Claremore; grandmother, Ora Rooker of Canton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of close friends, whom he loved dearly. He will be greatly missed by all. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogers County Humane Society.
