Charles Moran Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 30, 2023.
Charles "Chuck" W. Moran, Jr., 77, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, MA, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023, surrounded by family. For 54 years he was the beloved husband of Dianne (Cabana) Moran who survives him.

On June 24,1945, he was born to the late Charles W. Moran, Sr. and the late Florence M. (Rondeau) Moran in Lowell, MA. He was educated at St. Michael School, Keith Academy (1963) and later earned a degree from Lowell Technological Institute in Civil Engineering.

He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska. He was employed by the City of Lowell for 39 years, serving as Acting City Engineer before his retirement in 2003. The engineering gene was passed on to his children: Mark - mechanical, Kelly - highway, & Keith - computer.

Chuck enjoyed working on motorcycles with his sons. From an early age Chuck loved swimming and water skiing. He grew up around boats and as an adult he often delighted the younger generations by taking them skiing and tubing during family gatherings at the lake. He also loved the ocean where he and Dianne took hands-on sailing excursions and many trips to Maine, the Caribbean and Mexico. Chuck was an avid fan of country and Irish music and tradition. Their trip to his ancestral home on Clare Island off the coast of County Mayo, Ireland, was a highlight of their travels.

Chuck is survived by his son Mark Manasas and wife Sarah Felton (children Eliza and Nora), his daughter Kelly and husband Archie Wells (children Corey and Jocelyn), his son Keith Moran; his siblings Kathi Mulhall and partner Dave Mobley, Eileen and husband J. Michael Earle, Joyce Lamb; sister-in-law Mary Beth (Cabana) and husband Amb. Robert Gosende; nieces Michaeleen Earle Crowell, Kathleen Earle, Judith Lamb, Maureen (Lamb) Gullifa, and Deborah Lamb. Charles was predeceased by his brother-in-laws Charles P. Mulhall and Arthur W. Lamb. He also leaves a close group of lifelong friends and their wives whose friendships he cherished, in particular Bob and Lois Cullen who brought them together.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather ("Ga"), dearly loved brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. He was one of a kind; a quiet man with a gentle soul, a great smile and a big heart. Chuck will be missed by all who knew him.

Deepest appreciation goes to the Flannery family who have loved, supported and been there as the best neighbors/family possible.

Special thanks to the staff at LGH Saints Medical Day Care and the nurses at LGH Main Campus for their compassionate and personalized care. ("The Moran Suite" was a creative touch!)

Donations in Charles's name to the following organizations will be sincerely appreciated:

The American Red Cross (monetary and/or blood) and The Michael J. Fox Foundation (monetary and/or volunteering).

His Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Chelmsford will be announced at a later date. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Lowell.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. Funeral Directors Paul A. Hardy, Jr. & Jennifer Lebaropoulos Hardy. For online guestbook, visit CHELMSFORDFUNERALHOME.COM and find us on Facebook.

Eileen and family,
Sorry for your loss. I went to school with "Chuckie" from
k-12 and knew him from the neighborhood. He was always nice and very tall. My prayers for you all.

I remember Chuck from my early teenage years in Centralville. We used to congregate on his front steps. He and I had our share of adventures. Once we hitchhiked to Hampton Beach at night - got a free ride from a taxi driver going there to pick up a fare. Another time our "gang" was out on Long Pond and our row boat tipped over. That was exciting because at that time I couldn't swim. One other memory - he had a Lionel train set and we once set it up on the floor of his parents' home. As it happens, we lost touch with each other as we went our separate ways growing up, but I do fondly remember our time as pals. My condolences to his wife, sisters Kathi, Eileen and his entire family. I will certainly pray for him and his family.

I remember Chuck from when I was a young kid. He would drive Father Joyce, his mom, Sister Ralph and MaryJo to visit my grandmother. I was too young to know how we were all related. Over the years, my family would still see Chuck and his Sisters on days when I was working. I offer my sympathy as I've many stories about the cousins from Lowell, MA. Thanks for the kindness of keeping family in focus and making great memories. Sympathy to Chuck's family.
