Charles MUELLER Obituary

Published by Austin American-Statesman from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, 2017.
MUELLER, Charles Ernest Charles Ernest Mueller died on November 28, 2017 in Cedar Park, Texas after a 6 year battle with Alzheimer's. Charles was born on July 18, 1938 in Austin, Texas to Charles F. and Hattie Nehring Mueller. He was baptized at Dessau Lutheran Church on September 25, 1938. He attended all 12 years of school in Pflugerville. He graduated from Pflugerville High School in 1956 where he played football and baseball. He was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church on April 6, 1952. After attending UT in Austin, he began his career in printing and paper. He worked at the Steck Company and Hart Graphics for over 30 years. He then worked at Lone Star Paper Company, XpedX, and finished his 40 year career at Olmsted Kirk Paper Company in August 2012. He met his wife, Lillian Melber, on a blind date with his friend and her cousin. Charles and Lillian were married on June 17, 1961 and were married for 56 years at the time of his death. They were blessed with 2 loving daughters, Shelli and Traci. His favorite pastimes were watching UT sports, Astros, Rangers, Spurs, and the Cowboys. Most of all, he loved watching his daughters' and grandsons' activities. This included drill team, baseball, band performances, basketball and football. He loved playing games in the yard including horseshoes, washers, ladderball and kickball. He also loved travelling including London, British Columbia, Disneyworld, and going on a cruise. Going to Port Aransas with the whole family every year was special for the whole family. He has been a member of Redeemer since 1961 where he served as usher, elder, assistant Sunday School Superintendent, worship assistant, and 10:45 worship coordinator. He loved being on the bowling team and softball team. He also loved playing dominoes until his illness prevented him from participating. He was president of Dessau Lutheran Cemetery Association for over 20 years. His great-grandfather "donated" 8 acres for $10.00 to establish a cemetery in 1874. It is appropriate that he will be buried in this historical cemetery near his ancestors. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; his daughters and sons-in-law, Shelli and David Belser and Traci and Doug Pettit; and his precious grandsons, Tyler Pettit, Colton Belser, Braden Belser, and Dylan Pettit. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Bonnie Mueller; in-laws, Nora Lee Birdwell, and Junell and LeRoy Paul; cousins, nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters in Christ. Preceeding him are his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. A special thank you to everyone at Cedar Ridge Alzheimer's Care Center for their loving care of Charles this last year. We also thank Kindred Hospice for their attentive concern. Charles will be buried on Friday, December 1 at 10 AM at the historic Dessau Lutheran Cemetery. The cemetery is located at 13300 Dessau Road, Austin, Texas. A celebration of life will be held at 1 PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church at 1500 West Anderson Lane in Austin, Texas. Pastors Dave Schroder and Kevin Westergren will lead the service. A reception will be held upstairs immediately after the service for everyone to visit with the family. Memorials may be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church at 1500 W. Anderson Lane Austin, Texas 78757 or Dessau Lutheran Cemetery, c/o Mary Jackson at 11402 Chancelroy Dr., Austin, Texas 78759. Charles' confirmation verse is "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." 1 John 5:4 For those desiring, you may also access the online guest registry and obituary at www.wcfish.com.

Lillian, Shelli and Traci -

We extend to you our deepest sympathy. Charlie was one of the kindest men we have known. For many years we lived only a street apart in Allandale Estates, attended Redeemer together for as many years and John worked with Charlie at Steck and Hart Graphics. He was a fine Christian man and it was our pleasure and honor to call him 'friend'! You, Lillian, and he were our first two "Adopt A Shut-in" volunteers and what beautiful, loving and kind people you were to those for whom you 'adopted'.

May God bless you all!

I am so very sorry for your loss. Mr. Mueller sounds like he lived a full vibrant life and I really appreciated his comfirmation scripture. I hope to add to your comfort with a verse that helped me through tragedy. Jeremiah 29:11 For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you,' declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope.

To the family of Charlie Mueller, please accept my sincere condolences. I worked with Charlie at the Steck Co. from Oct 1959 to Oct 1960 when I quit to go to another job. There were several of us young guys working the night shift at that time and we referred to him as "Charlie Brown" the Peanuts character 'cause he was always so jovial. Charlie and I worked the back end of a "Web Press" most of the time packing the printed product on skids. During one night, after I'd been there a few months, I was tasked to retrieve a patched portion of paper that was being fed through a folder. As I reached in, the folder grabbed my index and middle finger of my left hand and mashed them off. Charlie was right there! He grabbed a rag and wrapped my hand and informed the Boss he was taking me to the hospital. Let me tell you, that 1958 cream colored Chevy Impala that he was driving at that time, didn't waste any time getting me to Brackenridge Hospital ER. I have never forgotten that night and every time I look at those two short fingers, I think of him. Sadly, after i left Steck, I bumped into him only one time several years ago. From my recollection, he was a great guy---always smiling and fun to be around. May he rest in peace!
