Charles Newbury Obituary
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of John and Paula Riley.
Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or Gentiva Hospice or flowers will be accepted.
Mr. Newbury was born March 29, 1936 in Bronx, New York and retired from the Panama Canal Zone as Chief of Community Services in 1979. He was a resident of Dothan for 35 years.
He is survived by his wife, Emily J. Newbury of Dothan; three children; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Emily & family-My deepest sympathy on your loss. I regret that I never met Charlie, but know he was a great guy because he was married to you!! From all of us here in Charleston we send our deepest sympathy on the passing of Charles. We pray for healing for all of you. We were down there in November and Charlie had a bout that I was able to assist with. Although we just walked in a little circle and then he sat back down he smiled at me and said....." I don't tip" and then he chuckled and smiled. Nice to look back at that day and realize the illness did not get his sense of humor. We hope the comfort of knowing you will see him again stays with you all till you join him. Love the Charleston Gang.

Charlie is a special father, husband and friend. He will be very greatly missed by all who know him. I am especially grateful to him for being such a wonderful companion to my very best friend, Emily. They were always a unique couple. He was a gentle human being and a gentleman always. Emily and family. We are deeply saddened to learn of Charlie's passing. He took ill way too early in life. I wish that I could have known him much better but will always cherish my memories of one of the nicest persons I've ever met.
