Charles Olmstead Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 21, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Charlie, aka Jon, or if you prefer, Jon, aka Charlie, shares that he passed away at home in Mesa on May 19, 2025. He fought hard against the cancer that ultimately prevailed, leaving us with fond memories of his humor, laughter, love of sports, industriousness and personal strength.

Jon was born in Indianapolis, IN, to Myrna Baxley and Daniel J. Olmstead on April 12, 1966, and grew up in Mesa. After graduating Westwood High School, he developed skills in tile setting, which he employed for others before opening Charlie's Custom Tile more than 20 years ago.

He honed his talents and leaves many attractively tiled homes in Arizona that will live into the future.

Preceeded by his much loved mother in 2021, Jon leaves his father, two brothers - Daniel Joseph, aka Joe, and Michael Baxley (Kelly); two nieces - Abigail Kay Olton (Daniel) and Molly Jane Olmstead - and one nephew - Henry Charles - as well as many friends. RIP, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. We miss you and know you are reunited with your puppy-children, Ellie, Jethro and Buddy across the Rainbow Bridge.

Jon
Although I hadn´t seen you in probably 10 years (just life), I will always cherish your friendship, your sense of humor. We meet a lot of people throughout our lives but not a lot of "Good People" as you.
Our deepest sympathies,
Randy -Vickie Martin

I was an awkward and lanky teenage girl when I met the boys on 9th(?) street who were in my class at Kino Junior High School. While we moved in different social circles, Jon and his friends were always nice and kind to me. We grew up together through high school, knowing each other without hanging out together. Jon always had a smile and I knew somehow that if I were ever in danger or trouble, those boys on 9th would have my back. God speed.

Ricky, you were like a Brother to me. Thank you for all the kindness you´ve shown me over the years. I learned a lot from you.
The stories that could be told. We had a lot of them.
You didn´t deserve this early exit, but I know nothing but love awaits you on the other side.
Until we meet again my friend, God speed John!

Dear Jon, you have refined my definition of a stepson: All the perks of having a son, PLUS
getting a cool and caring young friend.

Thank you for your love, Carol

Jon was such a fun and loving uncle to his nieces and nephews, a great older brother to my husband, and just a great guy to hang out with. We shared a love of the same music. He will be missed!
