Charles Palomares Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 8, 2023.
Charles "Deacon Chuck" Palomares passed away suddenly on June 16, 2023 of natural causes in San Ramon, Ca. He was a long-time resident of Walnut Creek, Ca. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 58 years Jean Marie Palomares, his granddaughter Christina Palomares, and his sister Sister Mara Anne Palomares. He is survived by his daughter Rebecca Palomares and son Dr. David Palomares (Kathleen), grandchildren Jeanmarie Meyers, William Meyers (Laura), Jonathan Palomares, Nicholas Palomares, Alexander Palomares and Christopher Palomares, great-grandchildren Taylor Frazier, Anthony Meyers and Dylan Meyers, and great-great-grandchild Carter Frazier.

Chuck was a proud sixth generation native Californian. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War; after being honorably discharged, Chuck met his wife-to-be Jean Marie. Chuck worked for Pacific Bell and in 1966 moved his family to Walnut Creek, CA. After working as a computer analyst for 33 years he retired and embarked on his second career and calling and was ordained a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church. He spent the next 28 years serving his church and community, with a special concern for social justice ministry. Over several years in the 1960s, Chuck and his wife opened their home to 25 foster children. A man of many interests, throughout his life Chuck was involved in theater, enjoyed stamp collecting and hunting, and loved to travel and research his ancestry.

Friends and family are invited to a Vigil 6pm-8pm, followed by Mass 8pm, on July 12, and Funeral Mass 11am on July 13, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Concord. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Contra Costa County, where Deacon Chuck worked tirelessly in service to people in need.
