Charles Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 1, 2025.
Charles Robert "Bob" Smith passed away at his home in Pollock Pines, California at the age of 65 following a battle with liver disease. Bob was born on February 12, 1960 in Hot Springs, Arkansas and grew up in Pleasant Hill, California. He was a 1978 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School and later earned an Associate's degree in Electronics Engineering from Heald Technical College. He worked as a Systems Engineer with Intel in Sunnyvale, California, Rio Rancho, New Mexico and finally in Folsom, California for a total of 25 years. Bob felt most at home in the Sierra Nevada and enjoyed hiking and kayaking. As a teenager, he set a goal of living in the Sierras, which he eventually did in Pollock Pines for the last 30 years of his life. Bob is preceded in death by his father, Dr. James L. Smith, Sr., and his mother, Wanda Lee Bowen Smith Steffensrud. He is survived by his siblings Patricia Anne Lanier (Dennis) of Texas, James L. Smith, Jr. (Linda) of Nevada, and Wanda Joyce Lopez (Ron) of California, as well as six nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and, at Bob's request, no funeral service was held. Donations in Bob's memory can be made to The American Liver Foundation and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse & Alcoholism.
