Charles STIDHAM Obituary

Published by TBO.com on Apr. 4, 2015.
STIDHAM, Charles Dorman, 80, of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Born in Bartow, Florida on September 23, 1934, son of Joe W. and Lois (Dorman) Stidham, was a resident of Lake Placid for most of his life, moving here with his family in 1948. He married Dorothy Dean "Dee Dee" Crews in 1956, and graduated from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy the same year. He served as President of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity in his senior year. Following graduation, he began working with his father-in-law, Lee Crews at Lake Placid Drug Company. Lee ("Doc Crews") opened the first drug store in Lake Placid in 1925. Charlie and Dee Dee purchased the business in the late 1960s and they continued to operate it until it was sold in 2007. After that time, he worked for Walgreen's Drug Store until he retired in December of this past year. Charlie's survivors include his wife, Dorothy C. ("Dee Dee") Stidham; sons, Lawrence Dean Stidham (Andrea), of Lake Placid, Douglas Lane Stidham (Pam), of Sarasota; brother, Thomas M. Stidham (Linda), of Lawrence, Kansas; sister, Sally S. Claire (Earl) of Lake Placid; grandchildren, Brandon J. (Cassie), Austin K.(Brooke), Skyla J., Danielle B. Chaplin (Chris), Amber L. Stidham (fianc‚ Brian Polino), and one great-grandson, Hudson Haynes Stidham. Charlie had many involve-ments in the community over the years. He was an active member of Faith Baptist Church and former deacon of the First Baptist Church of Lake Placid. He was a strong supporter of the Lake Placid Athletic Association, and had a deep love for the young people of the community. He was an inductee into the Athletic Association Hall of Fame, and a recipient of the Harry Seeber Chamber of Commerce award. For 17 years, he served as a member of the Board of Trustees for South Florida Community College (now South Florida State College), was a member of the Board of Directors of First Bank and Trust of Lake Placid, and was a vocalist during his later years with the Highlandaires Barber-shop Singers, receiving their Barbershopper of the Year Award in 2005. He was a member of the Florida Pharmacy Associa-tion for more than fifty years. Charlie was an avid fan of the University of Florida and strongly supported Gator athletics, attending most Florida Gator football games throughout the years. Charlie was a consulting pharmacist and took great pleasure in tending to the healthcare needs of his patients, showing great concern for their well-being, providing excellent personal service and quality care. Charlie was a real community-oriented man. He took significant interest in local athletic teams and Lake Placid Band programs, and often provided finan-cial support to see that these programs succeeded. He had a great desire to promote the Town of Lake Placid and was pleased to be honored as Pioneer of the Year a few years ago. Charlie will be missed greatly by all who knew him. He was known for his great stories, his jovial character and his humor, which often had reference to old times in Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Faith Baptist Church or to the Lake Placid Athletic Associa-tion, P.O. Box 1936, Lake Placid, Florida 33862. Visitation will be at Faith Baptist Church, 660 Holmes Avenue in Lake Placid from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Monday, April 6, 2015. Funeral service will follow. Funeral arrangements are under the loving devotion of MICHAEL A. BROCHETTI FUNERAL HOME 404 Plaza Avenue Lake Placid, Florida 33852 863-465-9997

Dee Dee I am so sorry for your loss honey. I loved Charlie to death. My fondest memory of him,was when he let me pay 50 cents a week on a watch, till I paid for it. I was in school at the time. God bless you and your family, and may he comfort you in your time of sorrow.
