Charles Tartt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2024.
Charles Allard Tartt, affectionately known as Charlie or Papa, passed away on September 11, 2024, at the age of 91 in Maryville, TN. Born on March 15, 1933, in Wilmington, NC, Charlie was the son of Percy and Pauline Tartt. He spent his childhood in Wilmington before moving to Miami, FL, where he met his beloved wife, Clara. The couple married in 1957, and after raising their two daughters, they lived in various cities before settling in Maryville, TN.

Charlie proudly served and obtained the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1954, which included time in the Korean War. Upon returning from service, he embarked on a dedicated career as an airline mechanic with Eastern Airlines from 1955 until 1988. He continued his professional journey at the University of Central Florida, handling building maintenance from 1989 until his retirement in 1999.

He was a devout member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Miami, FL, and later, Victory Baptist Church in North Augusta, SC. Charlie's faith and community were central to his life.

Charlie enjoyed doing yard work, embracing the love for the outdoors and satisfaction of a job well done. Charlie was also an avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves and a frequent viewer of Fox News.

Charlie is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Van Braue of Brunswick, GA and Debbie and Jeff Henry of Maryville, TN; his grandchildren, Ben and Eric Braue of Brunswick, GA and Eryca and Trevor Henry of Maryville, TN; and his faithful dog, Twilight. He also leaves behind numerous family members and friends who will miss his warm presence.

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Tartt; his parents; his sister, Dorothy Green; his brothers, Percy Jr., Floyd, Donald, Wesley, Roy, and Daniel; and his granddaughter, Rebecca Braue.

A service to celebrate Charlie's life will be held at Buie Barn, 510 Bladen Road, Brunswick, GA, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tunnel2Towers, honoring his spirit of service and community.

Charlie's legacy of love, family, friendship, devotion, generosity, and kindness will forever be remembered by all who knew him.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23

Uncle Charlie was our last uncle. He was always just a phone call away even when they lived in Florida and Georgia. FAMILY always came first with him. He loved everyone and we all knew it. He will be greatly missed by so many. Especially his little "Shadow"
