Charles VanDay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 26, 2018.
The Rev. Charles "Charley" Van Day III, 82, of Tobyhanna, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital - Monroe in Bartonsville. He was the loving husband of Virginia "Ginny" (Rex) Day, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage. Born in Cartersville, Georgia, he was the son of the late Charles Van II and Mary (Kiser) Day. Charley celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination as an Episcopal Priest in December. He served in Parish Miniseries for 29 years, followed by 21 years of chaplaincy mostly at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem. He served as supervisor of elections in Paradise Township. Charley loved crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, enjoyed surfing the internet to satisfy his insatiable curiosity, and liked his summer vacations on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In addition to his wife, Ginny, he is survived by his children; Dr. James Day of Gettysburg; Meghan Day of Raleigh, North Carolina; Chris McConnell of Douglasville, Georgia; and Ann Rex Oliveros of Fort Washington; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three nieces; and three nephews. The Rt. Rev. Kevin Nichols will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Mount Pocono. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to Trinity Episcopal Church, 137 Trinity Hill Road, Mount Pocono, Pa 18344.

When the daily email messages from Fr. Charley stopped coming in, and our messages to him were returned, we were puzzled, but Patric said be patient, he will come up with a new email address any day. Then I started looking online for Charles Day, but nothing showed up. We missed him, as he would occasionally stop by for lunch or cookies and a soda or tea, and he was kind enough to take us to the services when the Rev. Jane Teter, our neighbor, passed away. Yes, he loved to talk about his yoga, and his grandchildren, and his trips to the beach, and Ginny. We are sorry to know that he has gone to his repose. May he rest in eternal peace.

Dear Ginny,

After seeing a vibrant Charley at Fr. Bill's service, we were shocked to see his obituary.

Laura recalls having a conversation with him about his yoga and exercise habits!

We will remember his positive attitude and ask for God's strength to you in this change in life.

We are unable to attend the Memorial Service, but you will continue to be in our prayers for comfort and peace.

Love,

Carl & Laura
