Charles Wood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 12, 2011.
Charles was born on October 26, 1920 to James and Emily Wood in Vancouver BC and passed away peacefully at the Campbell River & District General Hospital on December 6, 2011.
He is predeceased by his parents, infant granddaughters Amy Noelle Wood and Emily Rebecca Wood, his loving wife Doreen (2008) and his sister Jean Allan (2009).
Dad became a pen pal with Mom through a stamp magazine; she lived in British Guyana South America. She came to Canada and they were married in Vancouver in December 1949. They moved to Namu where Dad was the wireless operator and also ran the local post office. An assistant postmaster position came available in Campbell River so they moved in 1053 and he worked until his retirement in 1982.
He and Mom enjoyed the many trips they took with the Happy Wanders to Reno, Nashville, Spain, and Hawaii. He was an avid reader and stamp collector, enjoyed watching the Vancouver Canuck games, but his passion was listening to music – especially classical and opera. Dad started playing the violin at age 11 and was a member of the Vancouver Orchestra.
Charles is survived by his sons David (Patti), Paul Wood of Maple Ridge, daughter Susan Lorentz (Alvis) and grandchildren Allison Wood Panter (Jay), Allan Wood, Steven Lorentz (Amber) of Edmonton, Derek Lorentz and Aiden Snyder. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Kolby Wood, Ethan and Zoë Lorentz. He will be missed by many who enjoyed dad's great sense of humour and his jokes. Special thanks to Dennis Lukey for your visits with dad, he so enjoyed getting the NHL pool sheets each season.
Our family would like to express their special thanks to Dr. Robert Ramsey, the third floor nursing staff, especially Sarah, during his brief hospital stay. We appreciate your kindness and caring.
A Celebration of Life will new held at Sutton's Campbell River Funeral Home, 502 South Dogwood Street, Campbell River, BC on Tuesday, January 3rd 2012 at 2 pm. A reception of cake and refreshments will follow the Service. Cremation entrusted to Mission Hill Crematorium.
