Evansville, Ind.

Charles D. Young, 78, of Evansville, passed away at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Charles was born September 12, 1937, in Winslow, Ind., to the late Dwight and Alcletha (Glassford) Young. He was a 1955 graduate of Winslow High School, where he played on his high school basketball team, going to the semi-state game in 1954. Charles served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as a sheet metal worker and as an explosives engineer for KINDILL Coal Company, where he retired after 20 years. He had a passion for singing, he excelled at karaoke and enjoyed going to casinos. Charles was of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Rhea (Carter) Young; daughter, Bridget Young, of Evansville; sons, Britt Young (Tami), of Evansville, and Christian "Chris" Young (Amanda), of Winslow, Ind.; stepsons, Bryan Altheide, of Newburgh, Ind., Jeffrey "Jeff" Altheide (Sandy), of Nashville, Tenn., and Eric Altheide (Kendra), of Newburgh; sisters, Norma Young (Donna Gaines), of Kingsland, Texas, and Ruth Nyberg (Jerry), of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Paul Young (Dee), of Evansville; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by daughters, Kathy and Stephanie Young.

Funeral services will be held at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville at a later date. Private entombment will be in Park Lawn Mausoleum.
