Obituary

Charles William "Charlie" Young (6/17/1938 - 9/1/2025) was reunited with his beloved wife Janice Karlene (Nelson) on Sep 1, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Father William Roell Young and Mother Fonna Rosamond "Rose"(Fowler). He is survived by his son Charles II and wife Sandy (Coleman) of Warsaw,MO, Julie Johnson and husband Mark of Kansas City, KS, son Steve of Lawrence, KS; Grandsons Eric Young, Gerald Johnson and husband Jordan Burdick, Kenny Johnson and wife Jesse (Harbeck), Daniel Johnson and wife Karmen (Ballesteros) and Anthony Yanella; Granddaughters Leanna Johnson, Angelina Young, and Mikiah Yanella; a loving niece, nephews, extended family and friends. After a 35 year career at Western Electric/AT&T he semi-retired in 1990 and decided to become a Truck Driver where he amassed nearly 3 million miles before entering full retirement in 2009. He found his greatest passion traveling with his family where lasting memories of the world's natural beauty were forged in the minds of his adoring children. In his later years he showered boundless love on his cherished grandchildren. He was the gold standard for Dad and Grandpa. Our mentor, our hero, our Dad. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Don and I loved your dad very much! Charlie and Don were life long best buddies and kept in touch with stories and laughter until their end. His laughter was golden and it will be missed, along with his stories of fun and friendship. His love for our family will forever be treasured and my love for your family surrounds you at this time of sadness and sorrow. May the beautiful reunion of your mom and dad give you strength and peace at this time. RIP dear Charlie! What a golden friend you have been!
