Houston, TX – Dr. Charlesetta L. Deason (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc), 81, passed away on March 19, 2023. Charlesetta Laverne Deason was born to Woodson Deason Sr. and Velma Lee Joyner-Deason on October 17, 1941, in the piney woods of Colmesneil, Texas.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Prairie View A & M University in 1964, a master's from University of Houston in 1967, and her doctorate from Texas Southern University in 1987.
Dr. Deason was the former principal of DeBakey High School for Health Professions in Houston from 1989 - 2008 and the CEO-President of the High School for Health Professions in Qatar.
Charlesetta was a member of Worthington Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully until her illness.
During her career, Dr. Deason received many honors and awards, including a finalist for the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals' Principal of the Year 1996, named the Region 4 Principal of the Year in 2004, among others, In 1999, an endowment fund was established to her honor called Charlesetta Deason Educational Fund for Excellence.
Visitation will be held (Friday) March 31, 2023, from 10-10:55 a.m., Life Celebration at 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 8775 Flagship Dr. Rev. Dennis Jones, Pastor, Rev. Raymond Hillis officiating, Dr. Joseph Davis Eulogist. Interment Paradise South, 2237 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77584.

Throughout our educational careers , my sister and I have had the privilege to be positively impacted by Black women educators like Dr. Deason. As our high school principal, she was a great representation of a woman of excellence dedicated to providing her students with the best educational environment possible. Thank you Dr. Deason for your leadership, service, and commitment. A job well done. Now rest in His power, peace, and love. Love Reyna and Nia Deese

Dr. Deason, it was a pleasure meeting you as the principle of two of my children that attended HP. That was the name of the school in the beginning. I had fun making videos of some of the classes my children attended at HP and I truly remember the famous spaghetti dinners. When I assisted you with putting together a video for your family reunion many years ago, I had a chance to get to know you better. You were a true professional and I am happy that my children were in your care. I fondly remember Dr. DeBakey stating that he never realized that the school would become so famous. You not only made DeBakey High School famous, you brought it to the international stage. My sincere condolence to your family. We will truly miss you.

My deepest condolences to all of her family. I was honored to have been her Secretary from 2006-2008. She made DeBakey HSHP what it is today. She gave me the greatest compliment when she retired in 2008, I will never forget her words to me. RIP Dr. Deason.
