Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 14, 2025.
Charlie Wood "Woody" Neely, Jr., age 76, passed away on June 12, 2025, in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Born on February 26, 1949, in Montgomery, Alabama, to parents Charlie W Neely, Sr & Willie L Cox Neely. Woody lived a life marked by service, dedication, and an unwavering sense of humor. He was raised in Manchester Tn for his early years until moving to Murfreesboro, Tn to finish out high school.

In 1967, while preparing to register for college classes, Woody saw a newspaper ad stating the United States Marine Corp could not get enough volunteers for the Vietnam War. Without hesitation, he answered that call and proudly served in the USMC from 1967 to 1971. His time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment to his country.

Following his service, Woody earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University. He went on to build a successful career in industrial sales that spanned over three decades. His career took him across several communities including Murfreesboro, Tn; Waverly, Tn; Benton, Ky; and ultimately back to East Tennessee.

Woody was deeply proud of his Southern Baptist faith and lived by strong principles. He never shied away from sharing his views and was an avid follower of news and current events. Whether engaging in spirited debates or simply staying informed, he approached every individual with passion and conviction.

Woody's greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his daughter Mary Joanna Neely "MJ" Ross and son Charles F. Neely; as well as three granddaughters who brought him immense happiness and pride: Grace Neely, Lilli Zane, and Mae Carter Ross, all of Murfreesboro, Tn. As well as sister Donna Neely Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Sheila Neely Crawford; and his brother David Neely.

A celebration of life will be held on July 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church 2210 Halls Hill Pike, Murfreesboro, Tn. 37130 615.893.7221 Followed by interment at Roselawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his honor to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation or the Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
