Charlie Van Wormer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 15, 2013.
CHARLES E. VAN WORMER, JR., 46, passed away at home on November 14, 2013, following a year-long battle with cancer. Born in Niskayuna, New York, he was currently a resident of Sugar Land, Texas.

While residing in New York, Charlie attended Lincoln Elementary School in Schenectady, and Sand Creek Middle School in Colonie. Following his family's move to Texas, he attended Louie Welch Middle School and Sharpstown High School in Houston, TX. Charlie was an ASE Certified Automotive Master Technician, with a vast knowledge of auto repair. During his career, he earned the respect of several employers and innumerable customers by his ability to accurately diagnose and properly repair automotive problems. Most recently, Charlie was employed at Auto Check #5 in Missouri City, TX, where his employer, co-workers and customers will feel the void of his passing.

Charlie's passions were cars and bowling, to which he gave his utmost effort. He consistently maintained a 200+ average in his bowling leagues, and practiced his skill to become even better. Throughout his adult life, he purchased and modified several Chevys, Ford Mustangs, and most recently, a Pontiac G8. His enthusiasm for this vehicle, and his desire to help other G8 owners, led to his involvement with the GRRRR8 website, to which he provided technical expertise and support. Through this site, Charlie made many friends throughout the United States.

Charlie was predeceased by his father, Charles, in 2009; and his sister, Lisa, in 2012. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Alsup Van Wormer; his son, Zachary Aron Van Wormer; and his mother, Rosemary Waleski Van Wormer, all of Sugar Land, TX. He is also survived by his grandmother, Grace Brown of Schenectady, NY; his nephew, Christopher Van Wormer of Sugar Land, TX; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and a host of friends.

A Visitation will be held at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., on Wednesday evening, November 20, 2013. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday morning, November 21, 2013, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.

I never had the pleasure of meeting you Charlie. But talking to you on the forum made me understand just how great of a guy you really are. I came into the G8 family and was IMMEDIATELY welcomed by you. We shared a love for G8's and bowling. I'm glad to have been able to correspond with you. I only wish I had been able to meet you in person. Regardless, I am honored to have been a part of your G8 family.

From another Pontiac brother to another ..Charlie you will be missed dearly. You have touched so many in the Pontiac G8 community and always treated us like we were part of your family. Always willing to help or give great advice no matter what. You had a huge heart. You are now in a better place and there will be no more pain. I pray for your family, Wendy & Zack. The next time it thunders out in Connecticut I will say that's Charlie Van Wormer bowling with the angels. R.I.P

There are many people that one meets in life... They usually fall into one of two categories, givers and takers. Without a doubt Charlie was a true giver, of his time, his talent, and his expertise. The G8 world has lost a true and dear friend.. RIP Charlie and God's love to your family..
