ORRINGTON - Charlotte E. (Quimby) Betts, 85, died after a short illness April 16, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Bangor. She was born Feb 25, 1931 in Bangor to Etta (Saunders) Quimby and Elliot S. Quimby.

She attended Bucksport schools and in 1949 married Gilbert W. Betts and raised their family in Orrington. Charlotte worked hard at many varied and interesting places. For many years she was employed at Viners Shoe Factory in Bangor.

Cooking and enjoying the company of family and friends gave her great pleasure.

Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Betts-Levine; her husband, Don Levine; Cheryl Allen and her husband Wayne Allen; her son, David Betts and his wife Annette Betts; her grandchildren, Trevor Betts-Levine, Derek Betts-Levine, Patrick Allen, Crystal Hafford, Amy Murray, Daniel Betts, Dylan Betts; and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial will be held Sunday April 24, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery in Orrington.

For all the years we have lived in this neighborhood, Charlotte has been a part of our lives! She has always been up-beat and kind. Two summers we worked together in the gardens at the Bullocks. We shared stories of family and life. A treasure. She loved her children unconditionally. She loved a nice visit with friends and family. Heather, she was so excited that you took the time to stop and say hi. I learned the importance of staying in touch. Not by internet but by personal visits and phone calls.. She would check on me if she did not see me for a few days. She would send cards, snail mail, for birthdays and other important days. She will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family. I know how deeply you all loved Charlotte. I am SO glad that I recently stopped to see her after a visit to the vet in Orrington and a walk by the river with Willow. It had been way too long since I'd seen her; she didn't really recognize me at first, but took one look at Willow and exclaimed "Heather!?" Although I failed to keep in close touch, I considered her a dear friend...absolutely a gem in the rough. Take care, dear family, and RIP sweet and funny and loving Charlotte.

Patty, Sherry & David - I'm so very sorry for your loss and you and your families are all very much in my thoughts...

Everyone loved being around your Mom and listening to her talk about her stuff -- she certainly had a knack of making a mundane task sound like an adventure!

I couldn't help but smile whenever I thought of her -- she is sunshine on a rainy day and we will all miss her wit, contagious laughter, bubbly personality and of course, her wonderfully interesting stories of her adventures...
