SCARBOROUGH -- William (Bill) S. Reny, 77, of Scarborough, died on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at St. Joseph's Manor in Portland.
Bill was born in Westbrook on Nov. 22, 1933, the son of William and Adele Dion Reny. Bill attended Westbrook schools and was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Robert H. McCard DD 822 during the Korean Conflict. His tour included many ports of call in the Mediterranean and loved to recall these times with friends and family.
Following his service, he was employed by Ellis Paperboard. In later years, he became a foster grandparent and enjoyed working with preschoolers, assisting at Red Bank Elementary School. Bill found this work to be a most enjoyable and rewarding time and loved the children he mentored.
Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Janice C. Reny. Survivors include his wife Ruby Reny and son Patrick Reny of Raleigh, N.C.; three nieces, Deborah Maxfield, Doreen Maxfield and Diana Maxfield and a nephew, Dennis Maxfield. His step-children and step-grandchildren loved him and the times they spent with him.
Bill had a passion for hunting, fishing, archery and target shooting. He was a longtime member of the Scarborough Fish and Game Association and would spend many hours target shooting and reloading with friends and association members.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at a time to be announced at Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough. Arrangements by Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel.
