Cheryl Rhodes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 25, 2024.
Cheryl Lee Rhodes, age 74, of Dunwoody (GA), passed on September 21, 2024, peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unconditional love that will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.

Born October 2, 1949, in Galveston, Texas, to Samual C. Vento and Bessie D. Scordas. Cheryl moved to Houston, Texas at a young age where she lived a life marked by compassion and selflessness. She was a graduate of Bellaire High School in 1969. Cheryl made her way to Atlanta where she joined Eastern Airlines in 1970 and served as a flight attendant during the heart of the jet age. Dressed in a blue tailored skirt and heels, her infectious smile greeted each passenger with grace and care. She exuded warmth and kindness, going beyond the basic duties of safety and comfort. While flying, Cheryl met the love of her life, Bill, in late 1975. Bill and Cheryl took on endless adventures together throughout their early years. With a beautiful ceremony, they were married in Houston, Texas in 1977. Cheryl was a dedicated member of the Eastern Airlines team for sixteen years and retired in 1986.

Bill and Cheryl shared 47 years of marriage, building a life filled with joy, laughter, and unconditional love. Their partnership was a testament to the strength of their bond. They enjoyed spending endless moments with their children, grandchildren and dear friends, traveling from coast to coast making a lifetime of memories and celebrating many blessings side by side. They built a beautiful family and life together. Cheryl's greatest joy were her two sons, Jason and Austin whom she raised with unwavering dedication, teaching them values of kindness, resilience, and the importance of walking in faith. Her role as Nana was one she treasured. She was a source of endless affection, taking great pride in her four grandchildren, Griffyn, Jordan, William and Cooper. She was present for every milestone, receiving endless joy while watching them grow. She was a place of comfort and love, filled with laughter and stories for her grandchildren.

Cheryl was not only a pillar of light for her family but also a source of warmth for everyone around her. She had a remarkable ability to make those in her life feel cherished, be it through her kind words, her gentle smile, or her thoughtful gestures. Her love extended beyond her family, carrying on through the lives of friends, neighbors, and everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Cheryl's life was a reflection of her unwavering faith, compassion, and dedication to her family.

She is survived by her husband Bill Rhodes, their two beloved children Jason Rhodes and his Wife Amanda, Austin Rhodes and his wife Emily, her four grandchildren, Griffyn, Jordan, William and Cooper Rhodes, and her sister Norma Nelson. She is preceded in death by her father, mother and sister.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, her spirit and everlasting love will live on in the hearts of those she touched. A celebration of life will be held soon to honor Cheryl. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to Cheryl's heart.

May she rest in peace, reunited with her loved ones in heaven. May we all be surrounded by the love Cheryl so generously shared with the world.

Cheryl Rhodes was the first person I met in the neighborhood when we moved to Atlanta when I was 6 years old. I knocked on her door looking for kids to play with and her face lit up with the smile and warm personality we all know so well. She quickly became like a second Mom to me and even after we moved away she made sure our families kept in touch. While it has been too long since I have seen her she will always hold a special place in my heart.

What a beautiful obituary and represents her so well. I was her Dental Hygienist and saw her for many years. She truly was of my favorite patients. We always managed to have some "fun" during her appointments and she made me laugh. Her kindness was something we all could see. Those at our dental office that have been here a long time are heart broken. Our deepest sympathy's.
