Cheryl Sechrest Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 28 to Jan. 31, 2024.
Cheryl Greenfield Sechrest Cheryl Sechrest of Greenfield, Indiana passed away on November 25, 2023. She was born on September 7, 1954 to William and Kathryn Sechrest.

Cheryl was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who touched the lives of everyone she met. She dedicated her life to her family, friends and even strangers. She is leaving behind a legacy of kindness, compassion and resilience. This is apparent in the love and devotion she showed to her children and grandchildren.

As a devout Chrisitan that attended The Bible Study Chapel, Cheryl was known for her faith and wisdom. However, to those close to her also remember her sense of humor. No family get-together was complete without Cheryl's laugh, a distinctive noise which was affectionally referred to as a "cackle." Her grandchildren fondly remember her stories and tales, both real and fictional that Cheryl would tell to capture their attention. She always provided sound advice for those seeking a voice of reason. Her family will forever cherish the memories of their shared trips and family gatherings, especially those to Nashville, Indiana and Brown County State Park, an area that Cheryl loved and enjoyed.

Cheryl was an avid reader and journal writer. She also had a passion for needlework, finding joy in crocheting blankets for the Indiana Donor Network. Cheryl loved her cat Gizmo who lived for more than 15 years and preceded her in death in October 2023.

Cheryl is survived by her children Lesley Noriega and husband Mark, James Burris and wife Sara; her grandchildren Erik Cliburn and wife Shannon, Blake Benedict, Connor Burris and Kaylee Burris. Her sister Rondee Hall passed away on January 20, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Kathryn Sechrest, daughter Heidi Mescall (Burris), brother Darrell Jacobs, sister Leslie Sechrest and grandson Grayson Burris.

To honor Cheryl's memory, her family will host a Celebration of Life on March 16, 2024 at 2:30pm at The Bible Study Chapel located at 2368 N. Spencer Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46128.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Indiana Donor Network or The Bible Study Chapel in Cheryl's honor. Cheryl's memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

I went to school with Cheryl. This past summer I became reacquainted with her. We enjoyed some walks and a reunion with some other class mates. I met Gizmo and had some nice visits with her. She was so happy when she rearranged her kitchen cabinet, to make things easier to get to. She is missed!

I had the pleasure of working with Cheryl for several years. We would regularly bump into one another when we were traveling the halls going from place to place. Cheryl was always a sweet person to talk to and always took time to talk about her children and grandchildren, who clearly gave her great joy. I could tell the time she spent with family meant a great deal to her.

You have my deepest condolences on your loss. She was a lovely lady in many ways and I know the family will miss her in the time to come. God Bless you all.
