Chester Eloge Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 1, 2017.
March 25, 1948 - October 25, 2017

Chester D. Eloge, Jr. "Skip" passed away on the evening of October 25, 2017 at his home in the arms of his loving wife, Glenda. Skip was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska the fifth and youngest child of Chester Don and Alta Faye Eloge.

Despite humble beginnings Skip would prove himself to be a self made man in every sense of the word. All who knew him knew of his compassion for others and his gentle caring spirit. He loved his fellow man and enjoyed sharing his keen wit.

Skip served his country faithfully in the U. S. Navy and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon with Bronze Star.

Skip graduated with honors in 1975 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He was president of the Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, and became a Certified Public Accountant.

After a successful career as an accountant, Skip opened The Brick Company, Inc. in Savannah in 1989 with his partner, Larry Crawford. The company enjoyed great success for some 19 years. In 2007 the company was sold and Skip began to enjoy retirement. Three years later he would encounter an opportunity to give back to his community and became the Chief Financial Officer at Union Mission.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Glenda Sasser Eloge, son Geoff, daughter in law Sara, two precious grandchildren, Ellie and Geoffrey. He also leaves behind daughters from his previous marriage Elissa and Brandy whom he enjoyed raising for many years with their Mother, Brenda.

He will be remembered fondly by his cherished comrades in the Wednesday Warrior Golf group at the Landings Golf Club and his lunch buddies at Spanky's Southside.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to those who assisted throughout this difficult journey. Gloria and Sonny Colley, Tim and Gail Wickstrom, John and Cathy Dunn, Kenny Mitchell, Frances C. Purcell, Cath Olivier, and our caregivers, Mary, Traci, Ruthie, and Carol.

Memorial services will be held in the Chapel at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church at 54 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, Georgia 31411, November 3rd, 2017 at 11:00 am officiated by the Reverend Jim Giddens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Skidaway Island Methodist Church or the Savannah Humane Society.

To us,life is not fair many times, and we just need to count on God that this was a part of his plan for us.Skip was so kind, gracious, and giving, and his refelction will always be seen by those who knew him.He definitely gave you happiness so it was a win/win for both of you. Focus on that. Remember, love never dies, and Skip will always live in your heart. That is why God gave us the capacity to have memories..the memories in your heart will keep Skip alive forever. Skip, I say to you, watch over Glenda because she will need you in the coming days.We will pick out our star tonight and name it Skip, and I promise that we will look at it every night. Godspeed.
