As I listen to a Bluegrass Show that comes on a station here in Michigan every Saturday afternoon, I can't believe it has been only 4 months since Uncle Chester passed away. I hear so many songs he used to sing and some that we used to sing with him. He was a very special uncle, man and friend to our family and we are really missing him, epecially on these days when the music is playing.

Carol,
The Christmas season has brought a memory to me of how much I used to enjoy Chesters singing at church, especially at Christmas when he would sing "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem ". You and all Of Chesters family are very much in my thoughts this Holiday season.

Chester was a fine, down-to-earth man who always had time to share a hunting or fishing story with me and the patience to listen to one of mine. Though infrequent, I will miss my visits with him.

Dear Carol and Family:
I have so many special memories of Chester, going all the way back to my childhood. His kind, gentle ways had a tremendous impact on so many of us in Clinchco. His love for his family was apparent to all; his friendliness was infectious, and his love of singing and playing touched the hearts of so very many. I loved having him be a part of my spiritual life as well. I have wonderful memories of him playing and singing at Faith Bible Church and then his spirit was so evident as he praised the Lord in song with one of his many guitars at Clinchco Missionary Baptist Church. I particularly loved it when he sang "The Scarlet Purple Robe". This song never failed to touch my heart. I also loved the way he loved his grandchildren, as well as how he playfully joked with Tammy. I know David and Suzanne were blessed to have him as a father. His quiet, solid ways were an inspiration. Lastly, Carol I know you have lost more than a husband...you lost a companion and a friend. The love and togetherness you two grew into as a couple, especially in times of sickness and trials, were something the rest of can only hope to obtain. Shirley, Shanna and I love you all and will remember you in our prayers. We ask God to let His love wrap you all in peace and comfort.

I have only fond memories of Uncle Chester going back to my childhood. I will always remember his generous hospitality, biscuit eating challenges, and mostly his incredible gift for music which engendered such peace and fellowship. He will always be in our memories and when I hear a "Sad old song" I will recall him, not with sadness but joy knowing how much he brought into the world.
God Bless

Chester was a very good friend to me.I worked for him and he always treated me very well. He never let me leave without playing me at least one song on his guitar. I never have known anyone that loved music more than him. I was truely blessed by knowing him. I will miss him dearly.
