Can it be 10 years since your beautiful soul left earth and floated into a heavenly realm? I still feel your presence, as memory reminds me how blessed I am to know you and have you as an eternal friend. Please tell Elvis I love him as ever. Chloe, till we gather in heaven's bright city, I'll remember you with endless smiles and joy, though I am crying as I write this. We found each other in Memphis so long ago, and our friendship began through Elvis. Ah, the unique, amazing, and lovely Chloe Lietzke! Elvis forever, Diana

The years go by, but your presence remains. I think of you often, and with a smile always. What a blessing to have you as my friend. Through our great Elvis, we met in Memphis so long ago. I treasure your letters, have kept them! You are an unusual bright spirit, and I love you. Till we meet again, kind Chloe! Diana (Elvis 4 ever)

Thinking of you, Chloe, as the calendar date of August 29th approaches...Can it be a year since your sweet and exceptional soul danced into heaven? I will never forget you and all the fun we had "talking Elvis". For the inspiration and smiles you gave me, I will always be thankful. May God bless your family as they tenderly remember August 29th.
Love, Diana

Dear Chloe, Fred, and family,
Chloe was a wonderful friend who loved life and lived it fully. We met during tennis class 50 years ago at Central State University (now University of Central Oklahoma). Chloe and I liked tennis (she was good) and she worked at the Dairy Queen in Edmond where we visited. Fred, Chloe, Tim and I went to Roman Nose State Park, rode horses and had a picnic. Shortly after Chloe and Fred married, bought a Subaru and moved. Forty years later she and Fred came to town to take care of Fred's Mother's Estate and they met my son Jonathan. Dear happy Chloe and I always had wonderful talks and she saw good in every situation. Loved her emails, the Lietzke Legate and Goofus. Chloe was the best lifelong long distance email partner I ever had. We were not far apart. You are no longer in pain and we will all meet again. Thank you for always being available, being a model of a lover of life and an encourager. God keep you faithful Fred and family.

Before this book is closed, I want to add how Chloe has influenced me in such a short time. I was hired to provide harp music at Alta Bates/Summit Hospital. For many, many months I played outside the ICU. Little did I know that Chloe was directly behind the wall where I was playing. A nurse came out with an extravagant notecard from Chloe. An email friendship blossomed even though we did not see each other for many more months. We had much in common and even found out we had seen each other years before when I was playing at the Fairmont and Chloe's family took her on a San Francisco adventure in her reclining wheelchair. (Having a son in a wheelchair, I am very aware of the disabled). Since meeting Chloe whenever someone asks me, "how are you?" I always answer, "Great!" People look quizzical. I then tell them about this woman who has been in the same hospital room for months and months and still smiles and finds joy and even awe when the color of the paint is changed in the hall where she can see. What an encouragement to me and those around her to see beauty and wonder in small blessings. She even wrote a letter of recommendation for me which I still use in my resume! It has been an honor to have so many email conversations with Chloe and all the other names we gave ourselves!!

Reflections regarding Chloe Ellen Lietzke.
I feel grateful for having Chloe as my sister-in-law. Our greatest personal contact was her faithfulness with sending me her homemade birthday card. I know my husband, Roger, also very much looked forward to receiving her annual card. It became a tradition for the two of us. Given Chloe's health circumstances and our financial circumstances, I feel fortunate for the occasions we were able to visit in person (Florida, Ontario/Canada). Chloe epitomizes enthusiasm, kindness, warm heartedness, communication, and creativity. She is an ongoing beacon of perseverance and commitment to life for me.

I only met Chloe last year via facebook and though we are generations and waters apart, it was like I had known her forever. We shared the same Christian name, surname of Polish descent, birthday, passion for languages, education and the intricate beauties of nature! She shared her stories with me and became my natural role-model. Chloe it was an honour to get to know you and I am sorry that it was so short-lived. No doubt we will meet again sometime; in the meaning I will be thinking of you whenever I see an outstandingly beautiful flower.

Sweet Chloe,
Thank you for answering my pen pal letter way back in 1980. It wasn't just any response; it was multi-page spirited introductory testimonial of your love for Elvis. :) I knew then we'd be friends for life. The two trips we took to TN and MS and the wonderful memories of the fun and funny and daring excursions we took during EP Week and the many other memories of shared interests will live with me till we meet again. I miss you. I love you.
God bless you, my dear friend.

Thursday September 6 Chloe was buried wrapped in an Elvis blanket (Fred's idea) on the scenic slopes of Fernwood Cemetery in Mill Valley with beautiful comments provided by family and friends. Dave played Amazing Grace on harmonica. Chloe was a Libra, symbolized by the scales, and she lived a balancing act: born a Yankee, grew up a Southerner; had an idyllic childhood suddenly turned into a broken home; her parents divorced and she had a lifetime marriage; grew up on the east coast and lived on the west coast; lived in Oakland and rooted for the Giants; devoted to Fred and obsessed with Elvis; health conscious with long-term illness; super-expressive but lost her voice; loved food and stayed skinny; was nice, polite, and tactful while honest and truthful; struggled with independence and dependence. We love you Chloe.

Dear friend Chloe,
From the time we met in Memphis over 33 years ago, you have been my "Elvis friend from California". A thousand memories arise in my heart. Our love for Elvis Presley. Our mutual admiration society. The hundreds of "Cobalt" letters and emails. The happy times we shared in Memphis and outside Madison Square Garden. But that is all about us. I want to offer my deep condolences to your devoted husband, your daughters and the light of your life, Jazzy.
In church the other day, the words to a hymn made me cry for my friend Chloe:
"And then one day I'll cross the river; I'll fight life's final war with pain; and then as death gives way to victory, I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know he reigns."
I will always miss you. On this day of eternal remembrance, I send my prayers to a brave, unique and precious person, my friend, Chloe Lietzke.

Knowing that Chloe has been ill for a long time her passing has still come as a shock to me. She's been such a brave fighter with a commendable strength and attitude. I'm so sorry you're gone, but I KNOW you're in a better place, a place without suffering. There is no more pain and no more worries.
I've known you for some 34 years when you responded to a question about Elvis and lyrics from his songs. We've remained lifelong pen-pals. When I visited the U.S. for the first time you were gracious to share your home and family with me. It created lifelong memories. I was thrilled when you and Fred were able to visit my home and family a few years back when you went on an amazing trip that took you to many places all over this country. You were an incredibly strong woman with a beautiful smile and a loving heart.
I will miss you, my friend, but your memory will never die.
Rest in peace, your friend, ELKE Paxson and family

Chloe was my cousin and, unfortunately, only got to see her a few times in the past years. One thing I really enjoyed about her was her indomitable spirit. Where others in her situation might have withdrawn from life, Chloe met it head on. We (including my late dad and Chloe's uncle, Stan) always looked forward to receiving a new edition of the Lietzke Legate which, even if you had never met Chloe, gave you a picture in words of someone living life to her fullest. We'll miss her writings and her good cheer. Godspeed, Cousin Chloe!

May God rest your soul Chloe. When I was immobilized by multiple fractures and surgeries in my right leg you provided the advice to enhance my crutches and gave me mobility for the fourteen weeks I was in a leg cast. It was an honor to be your friend for so many years.

Chloe was my step-sister and although never we lived together or shared our early lives together, she was a special person and "sister" in my life. She was full of spirit, and very creative. I enjoyed her cartoons and newsletters for our family. I know how much her family meant to her. I know she will be missed but I also know she is no longer in pain but in peace and whole again. Thank you Chloe for being a part of my extended family. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
