Dr. Choi was an amazing and deeply caring and intelligent man. He helped me and both of my children in his professional capacity. I remember first learning of his passing back in 2019 and breaking down in tears over the loss of him and the recognition of the pain he long carried as he continued to help others with theirs.
It was nice to read the remembrances of others on this page. he continues to be missed and remembered by my family. I can only imagine the sheer scale of people Dr. Choi helped throughout his time on this earth, an earth that is better for time he spent amongst us.
He used to say he spun his pain into gold to help others.
May you have finally found the peaceful repose you long sought, Dr. Choi.

I don't know what to say about his passing. Dear Dr. Choi, you were such a selfless, professional, and compassionate human being I've ever met in my whole life. I deeply regret for not being able to pay back for what you had done for me and the people I brought to you for counselling. Rest in peace Dr. Choi.

I'm devastated Dr. Choi helped me through some tough times. He really really cared. Selfishly, I will miss his compassion and support. But I'm also sorry for all those who needed, loved and valued him as a doctor and friend. God bless.

Devastated to learn about Dr. Choi's death. He was one of the few psychiatrists who actually CARED.

Dr. Choi was my doctor for 5 years. A kind, compassionate, thoughtful, and insightful man. He was such a successful practitioner because he could directly relate to many of his patients’ personal struggles. He helped me get through a very painful and dark time in my life, and gave me tools that I still use (and share with others). I’ll always be grateful to him for his kindness towards me. I miss you, Choi. Just know that I look forward to meeting you again in God’s presence, and having the opportunity to continue our friendship in perfect bliss. God’s blessings to the Choi family and all of his friends.

I'm so sad to learn about Choi's death (I just learned yesterday). Like Shami, if anyone has additional information, I would be grateful and appreciative to learn? Choi and I dated for 4 years of medical school. He became part of my family way back then. I still tell the story of the night that he and my parents met. And when Choi came home with me for the high holidays and Passover; his connection to my Nana, as well as my aunt who was living in NY just after a hard divorce were profound. Choi was insanely kind and gentle when my aunt was in significant emotional pain. Choi and I traveled across country on his motorcycle (he gifted me full leathers and a helmet) and to Portugal. Wonderful times and wonderful trips. When he moved to study for his PhD, we commuted back and forth on weekends between D.C. and Pittsburgh. I remember him visiting me, too, in RI during my residency. I truly loved him -- and we all (my family and friends) referred to him as Dr. Dr. Choi Choi.

I was so sorry to hear of Choi's passing. We were first-year undergraduates together at Johns Hopkins in 1984 and lived just down the hall from each other in the dorm. Really sweet guy.

Dr. Choi was the best psychiatrist, counselor, listener I have ever had. I am so saddened by the loss of this great human being. My prayers go out for him and all that appreciated what a great man he was.

His wisdom and kindness gave me the insight and perspective to persevere through the deepest, darkest parts of my depression. I am eternally grateful to have known him, and I will miss him dearly.

He was my friend for 33 years; he knew me as Shami. I learned of his passing only yesterday, but know nothing of the circumstances. If you have any information, please contact me.
