**Christine Mary "Chris" Marantino (née Hansen), 71**
*June 12, 1954 - July 3, 2025*
With deep sorrow and enduring love, we announce the sudden passing of Christine Mary "Chris" Marantino (née Hansen) on July 3, 2025, in
Ozone Park, New York. She was 71 years old.
Born on June 12, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York, Christine was the daughter of Ita Iris Gallagher from Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland, and William John Hansen of Brooklyn. Raised in a lively household with her siblings Patricia Helen Joyce, Thomas Francis Hansen, and Robert William Hansen, Christine grew up surrounded by family and the vibrant spirit of life in Queens.
Christine's life was marked by her boundless compassion and unwavering loyalty to those she loved-traits that defined her relationships and left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Known affectionately as "Aunt Chris," she shared a close bond with her niece Meghan Anne Hansen, with whom she connected deeply over their mutual love for animals. From rescuing strays across Queens to caring for her beloved husky Dutchess and many cherished cats, Christine's home was always a sanctuary for creatures great and small.
Her generosity extended far beyond animals. Christine had an open heart and an open door. Whether it was offering refuge after tragedy or simply sharing laughter over a subway ride into Manhattan for music and clothes shopping at Tower Records and Unique Clothing, she made every moment memorable. Her sense of style and love for music made her the "cool aunt," and her magnetic personality drew people in wherever she went.
Christine's home in Ozone Park held decades of family memories. It was where she grew up alongside her siblings and later welcomed her nieces into the same rooms filled with warmth, stories, and playful games. After their father's passing in 1978, her younger brother Robbie moved into the basement apartment to create his own space-a place in the family home where he grew up and family continued to gather, grow, and play together - from hide-and-go-seek to board games, and long walks with Dutchess, Aunt Chris' dog, she always created a fun welcoming space for everyone.
Aunt Chris lived life unapologetically on her own terms-fearlessly authentic and full of spirit. Her connection with Meghan endured through every chapter of life: from childhood adventures to long-distance support during Meghan's time abroad in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Even after Meghan lost her home in California's Woolsey Fire, Aunt Chris offered not only comfort but also a place to stay-for both Meghan and her two rescued horses (bedrooms in Queens for thoroughbreds?!) -showcasing once again her limitless kindness and humor.
Christine is deeply mourned by her nieces Meghan Anne Hansen and Meredith Jan Hansen. She is predeceased by her beloved parents; siblings Patricia Helen Joyce, Thomas Francis Hansen (Meghan's and Meredith's father), and Robert William Hansen; as well as nieces Keri Marie Hansen and Tara Maureen Joyce.
A private burial has taken place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, where Christine now rests alongside her brother Thomas-her best friend in life.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate professionals at NYPD, NYC Animal Care Centers, and the NYC Medical Examiner's Office for their assistance during this difficult time.
Christine Mary Marantino leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, resilience, and fierce devotion. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those people and animals who were lucky enough to know her.
Rest peacefully now with your family in Heaven, Aunt Chris. You are deeply missed-and always loved.
