William Hamilton Obituary

William Eugene Hamilton of Wheaton A funeral service for William Eugene "Gene" Hamilton, 89, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, in the chapel at Gary Memorial United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St., Wheaton, with the Rev. Sandra Sagehorn officiating. Born April 10, 1915, in Allerton, Iowa, he died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at home. Private interment will be in Chapel Hill Gardens in Oakbrook Terrace. Mr. Hamilton served his country during World War II as a lieutenant in the Navy. He retired as chief economist for the American Farm Bureau. He also served the city of Wheaton on its planning commission and was a volunteer in the IRS tax preparation program for senior citizens, preparing the most difficult returns. He also was an active member of Gary Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. He loved world travel and will be deeply missed by his wife and family. Survivors include his wife, Arlene; son, Dr. William E. Jr. (Linda) Hamilton; son-in-law, H. Reid (Sally) Nolte; grandsons, Dr. Brett W. (Kristin) Hamilton and Derek E. Hamilton; and sister, Mildred Lindquist. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dr. Sharon Hamilton Nolte. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. Memorials may be directed to CNS Hospice, 690 E. North Ave., Carol Stream, IL 60188, or to the church.
