Christopher Larry Cordell

Christopher Larry "Chris" Cordell, 66, of Rogersville Tn, passed away on March 14, 2025, at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tn.

Born on May 4, 1958, in Elizabethton, Tennessee, Chris was a 1976 graduate of Hampton High School. He was employed by TPI Corporation for 33 years, retiring in 2010.

Music was a lifelong passion for Chris. A talented bass player for nearly five decades, he played with numerous bands over the years, including Two Layne Highway and most recently Broke-N-Busted. His love for music brought him joy and connected him with many fellow musicians and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter and Chrystal Cordell.

Grandparents, James McKinley and Sally (Hayes) Winters and Roscoe and Elizabeth Mable (Morgan) Cordell.

Chris is survived by one child, Kasey Brown. Girlfriend of 22 years, Kathy Gilliam. Her children who he thought of as his own: April Gilliam, Jason (Lindsey) Gilliam, and Dusty (Jessi) Linkous. Grandchildren-Hunter (Tori Gosnell) Buckner; Heaven, Gabriel, Joel, and Isaiah Gilliam; and Colton and Aubrey Linkous-as well as his great-grandchildren Hadleigh, Presley, Creedence, and Ella. His fur babies whom the loved dearly, Baby, Molly and Marly and his grand-dogs, Athena, Lola, Ranger and Book.

Among those who held a special place in his heart were his lifelong friends Herb Layne and Randy Heaton, whom he loved and considered brothers.

Chris's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on through the music he played and the love he shared with family and friends.

His wishes were to be cremated and no formal service.
