Christopher Coulthurst Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 26, 2024.
Christopher Eden Coulthurst

Bellingham, Washington – On November 8th, 2024, Chris passed away tragically while riding his motorcycle at age 49. He was born in Bellingham, WA on June 23rd, 1975.

He is predeceased by his parents, Danny, and Marsha Coulthurst.

Chris is survived by his siblings, Robert Coulthurst, Kenneth Tobin, Mary Coulthurst, Michael Coulthurst, Rick Coulthurst, Daniel Glaze (brother-in-law) and Kimberly Coulthurst (sister-in-law).

Chris attended school at Marietta and Alderwood Elementary, Shuksan Middle School and Bellingham High School. He received his GED from Bellingham Technical College.

It was at an early age that Chris began to show a keen interest in computers, ham radio, electronics, aviation, and technology.

Following in his parent's footsteps, he attained his Amateur Radio Technician's license in middle school. His father, Danny's profession as a radio engineer inspired him and he quickly learned the industry. This passion evolved more later, where he took a key role in the family business of operating telecommunications towers on Orcas Island.

Computers and telecommunications were a great interest to Chris. In 1998, he hosted his own dial-up internet service provider business, where he spent late nights learning about networks and various operating systems. Chris enjoyed working with anything electronic and spent much of his life building gadgets and automating his living space.

Chris also had a passion for aviation and, as a teenager, joined the Civil Air Patrol in Bellingham, WA. Chris continued to learn about flying and received his private pilot's license in 2005. He purchased a Piper Cherokee Warrior airplane in which he enjoyed taking friends and family for scenic flights around the San Juan Islands.

Chris was actively involved in his social circles, where his friends were an important part of his life. On many nights, you could often find "Topher" at the Slo-Pitch bar, leading the board at trivia or partying at Rumors Cabaret.

Chris had the ability to remember most of what he was exposed to and could be counted on to pull up the name, place or last detail of just about anything. During his school years, Chris would often rely on memory in performing both academically and musically. He was a talented musician and loved all genres of music. He learned to play the standup and electric bass at an early age and played with the orchestra in middle and high school.

During the last years of his life, Chris looked forward to spending Wednesday "band" nights, jamming with his brother, Rob, and brother-in-law, Dan.

A celebration of life will be held in Bellingham in Spring of 2025. More details will be posted at a later date on social media.

Chris was my "Flaky Pilot Friend!" I called him that to his face, and he responded, "Yep, that's me!" But as I look around now that he's passed, I think of how he played music with me, solved the hydraulic leak on my backhoe, helped open up my airplane for inspections, fixed the leak on my deck, rewired the trailer that I damaged, and who got his "High Performance Rating" in my Skylane. He's in so many of my memories in the last 15 years!
Chris, I miss you!

Chris, thank you for being my friend, all the way from Alderwood days to sharing your sky with me.
I'll be 49 in just a week. You were suppose to tell me what it's like. Next year at 50 I'll make sure to tell you what it's like.
And thank you for telling me all about your family, friends, and the day your mother passed (Marsha was a very loving caring woman, and was glad to know her too). Taking you to see her gravefor your first time was an honor
You can finally rest, and not feel the way you don't like anymore. Please give Marsha hugs for me
I am proud and a better person for knowing you brother, all of us are

The world lost a kind, brilliant, fun loving soul. Chris was such a fountain of information for all of us on the board of MCSI. His knowledge and input were immeasurable. I´m also so very grateful that I had the honor of getting to know Chris a little personally. I enjoyed the few times we texted and talked about baseball, flying, family, music, politics and life in general. I saddens me that we won´t share any more of those interactions.... They always made me smile and laugh. My heart is with you. The world is a little less bright with his passing.

Chris was a good guy, always supportive of his friends and wanted to share his love of life, his love of flying with everyone in his life. I met Chris when I came to work at Slo-Pitch, he was really patient as the old hand in surveillance with a new security guy. I can't deny, this one hurts.
