I worked with Chris in the 1990s in the Time Washington bureau. As a fellow Rhode Islander, we had lots of stories to share. He was a knowledgeable and kind colleague, always willing to share his insights and analysis with younger correspondents. Godspeed, Chris.

Chris was a wonderful, stylish, entertaining journalist and a warm, companionable and puckish human being. I worked closely with him for some years at TIME and deeply regret that we fell out of touch. A life well and happily lived, too soon over.

Rest in heavenly Peace, Chris. Chris was at Portsmouth with me and then in DC for decades while at TIME. He always was interesting to talk and never full of himself. Sadly we have fewer reporters like him researching and writing objectively about their stories. He was always both a joy to talk to and to learn about his trips and thoughts. In sincere sympathy , Jim R from the New Dorm at Portsmouth Abbey School

Chris was my prefect during the 1961-62 school year. He seemed scary and stern at first then his warmth and intellect came through. I know that we are all diminished by his passing. RIP

I played on the Portsmouth Abbey football team with Chris. He was a year ahead of me and was very kind and supportive of a younger kid trying to earn some respect on the football field. Chris was a good player and a true gentleman to me

Chris and Linda were frequent walkers up at our local park here on Kauai Kukuiolono. I so enjoyed our talks and words of encouragement over the last year. A warm and gentle soul he was . Aloha Chris

Although we were classmates at Yale, I only met Chris in the last year or so, after he came to Kauai in his retirement.
Kind. Wise. Always seeking to learn about others. Funny. Those are just a few of the character traits that I got to learn about.
His death is a terrible loss for his Kauai friends.
