CONAWAY, Va. — Christopher Houston Ramey, 36 years old of Conaway, Va., passed away Friday, September 12, 2008 from injuries occurred in an industrial accident. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of Houston and Helen Deel Ramey of Conaway, Va. He was a 1989 graduate of Grundy Senior High School and was of the Primitive Baptist Faith. He was a Correctional Officer with the Keen Mountain Correctional Center and worked also for the Mescher Manufacturing Company. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and digging ginseng. He was a loving husband, father and son. Chris is survived by his wife of 13 years, Denise Cantrell Ramey of Conaway, Va.; his parents, Houston and Helen Deel Ramey of Conaway, Va.; one daughter, Bessie Maria Ramey of Conaway, Va.; one sister, Chastity Ramey of Conaway, Va.; his paternal grandmother, Ora Ramey of Conaway, Va. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Obra Ramey and his maternal grandparents, Birtie and Mae Deel; and one nephew, Nathneil Taylor. Funeral services for Christopher Houston Ramey will be conducted Monday, September 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Elders Ked Stacy, Danny Smith and Joe Edwards officiating with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va. Graveside rites will be conducted at the Mountain Valley Memorial Park by members of the Keen Mountain Correctional Center Honor Guard. Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel after 5:00 p.m. Sunday, and there will be evening services at 7:00 p.m. with Elders Toy Looney, Roger Coleman, Howard Daniels and others. Active pallbearers: Brian Clevinger, Leon Ramey, Tim Ramey, Gilbert Ramey, Tommy Thacker, Ray Looney, Ronnie Cantrell, Henry Cantrell, Wayne Hagy, Burlin Owens, Mike Stiltner and Randy Deel. Honorary pallbearers: Employees of Keen Mountain Correctional Center, employees of Mescher Manufacturing Company and Joe Matney. Me and my family are praying for you and yours, in your time of loss. I work at kmcc and have always thought of Chris as a friend and always will. I will always remember he never called me by my name it was always, hello slim whenever i saw him. Chris will always be missed and it was a pleasure working with him and knowing him. You will always be in our prayers!
