SMITHERS - Christopher B. The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) mourns the passing of Mr. Christopher B. Smithers, President of the Christopher D. Smithers Foundation. Our hearts are heavy with this news of his passing, as Mr. Smithers was a great friend and champion to the mission of LICADD. Mr. Smithers' kindness and focus on community service benefitted the lives of countless many. Mr. Smithers was a dear friend, pioneer and an innovative collaborator in his dedication to improving LICADD programming in order to better serve individuals and families struggling with the disease of substance use disorders. Please join LICADD in offering our collective thoughts and prayers to his family, his wife Nikki and his children, Brinkley, Christopher, Adelina and Nicholas, in their time of grief. LICADD and the many people we serve will miss Mr. Smithers' genuine compassion and empathy for all people, and all of his love of service. Services will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 11am at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Roslyn.

Chris & I had a special relationship throughout high school. Unfortunately we never connected since. I did keep tabs on him but never fully engaged in his work or writings. Since hearing of his passing I have been admiring his work. It sounds like he had a very loving family who will hopefully be able to find peace in the memories and phenomenal accomplishments of Chris.
My thoughts go out his wife and kids!

He was one of my first childhood friends growing up. And we remained friends throughout the past 45 yrs. It didn't matter if we had not spoken to each other in months, when we reconnected it was as if we had just spoken or seen each other the day before. It was Same as it ever was. I felt so fortunate to have him As one of my best friends. We shared many great times, laughs and memories that I will forever cherish. From the days at Jericho the sleep overs and playing basketball. Flanders, to skiing in Vermont, to transporting his boats down south for the winter we shared many memories. He was a friend who would selflessly give and ask nothing in return. I will be forever grateful to his mom Adele, his family and Christopher The Smitty for being a great friend.
May he Rest In Peace He will be missed, but his legacy lives on in his children as well as his philanthropic work with his family foundation. He has touched many lives in ways he will never know.

My dearest cousin.... I watched you grow from a boy to a man. I have the best memories of the times we shared together. You were gentle, caring and most generous. I love you.
