Christopher Thomas Kucera

I met Zach when he was at FAHASS, he introduced us (me, and my two sons) to Chris when they came to dinner one evening. we loved getting together with the two of them. We always had such a fun, relaxing time. During Covid we couldn't get together with them so we sent them a box of our homemade Halloween cookies and cakes, they took this picture of the two of them after they had opened the box. Chris also loved our chocolate macaroons. My heart is so sad, they are so loved by us and so missed.

Chris came to visit while we were living in Costa Rica. July, 2011, which can have lovely days, but is also in the middle of the rainy season. He and our friend Becky had walked the 15 or so minutes down to the beach. After they had been gone for a while it started to rain and then it was a deluge and a thunder and lightening storm. They had not come back yet. So I got in the car and drove down to the beach they had gone to and saw them absolutely trapped. They were standing under a tree and it was raining too hard to get to any kind of shelter and there was so much loud thunder and lightening, they hadn´t moved because that seemed dangerous too. They couldn´t walk home and couldn´t get help from anyone because neither of them spoke Spanish. They saw me pull up and ran to the car, soaked through and cold.
Once they were safe I remember is all thinking it was the funniest thing that this was a beach vacation.


January 31, 2011 Chris and his brother Michael were staying at a condo in Breckenridge and skiing. I drove up from Colorado Springs and we all went to the ice sculptures and out for drinks and stayed up late talking in the hot tub. I stayed at their condo. I had brought an air mattress but forgotten the pump. Chris was a problem solver. Chris and I switched off blowing it up. One of us would get close to passing out and we´d switch. We finally got it blown up and threw some blankets on it. Michael had long ago gone into the bedroom in the condo and closed the door. Chris didn´t want to wake him so we both slept on the queen sized air mattress.... Which it turned out did not hold air for the whole night, so we slowly sank to the floor.
