Christopher Thomas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2024.
Christopher Frederick Thomas, 61, of Tamarac, FL, passed away at home on July 12, 2024 after a long illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Jennifer Laine, his cherished rescue dogs Jack and Skylar, his father Roger Guy Thomas, his sister and brother-in-law Stephanie Thomas and Matt Halpin, his brother and sister-in-law Scott and Megan Thomas, his brothers-in-law David Richie, Joseph Richie, John Sessor, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving stepmom Ruthmarie (Ree) Thomas.

Christopher was known for his love of animals, books, and food. He loved cooking, creating elaborate meals for extended family and friends on holidays. He shared a love of science fiction with his father and sister and was fiercely proud of his sister becoming a bonafide rocket scientist.

Chris was born in 1963 in Maryland while his father was stationed there. Although he grew up in New Jersey, Chris always hated the cold of the northeast. He moved to Florida as a young adult and never left. Most of his working life was spent outdoors, doing construction and carpentry. He was extremely handy, with a robust set of tools and a passion for doing the job right. He was always happiest as his own boss.

He met his future wife Jennifer in 1993 through mutual friends. They began dating in 1994 and eloped in 1999. They had a more formal wedding ceremony on the beach in April 2000. He was a devoted husband and always considered himself blissfully lucky to have found her.

A private service will be held for family and friends.

Contributions in Christopher's memory may be made to the Florida Humane Society, 3870 Powerline Road, Pompano Beach, FL 33073, https://floridahumanesociety.org/.

When I was a kid, and we would visit my grandparents in Florida every summer, one day would be my special day with my big brother Chris, who was a grownup by then and lived down there. He would take me to a water park for the day, to spoil me. We would go down the craziest slides, the ones there you have to cross your arms and legs. I did love those visits! Later, when I did a summer program at NASA, our group did a road trip down to Kennedy Space Center, and Chris and Jennifer were able to meet me there. We geeked out together over the giant Saturn V, space shuttle, and moon rocks. Such fond memories.

There are no words that adequately capture how much I love you and how much I will miss you. You were my partner, my best friend, my soulmate, my everything. 30 years with you was not nearly enough time. I would do anything to go back and do it all again. You will be my love and be in my heart forever.
