Christopher TURKO Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal on Oct. 24, 2012.
TURKO, Christopher Brent
1953 - 2012
On October 17th, 2012 Christopher Brent Turko of Edmonton passed away at the age of 59. He left this world peacefully and surrounded by loved ones after a courageous four year battle with cancer.
Chris is survived by his loving family: daughter, Krista Turko-Block (Ben); sons, Jordan and Kane Turko; grandchildren, Ty and Aspen Turko; father, Fred Turko; sister, Rosemary Turko-Luft (Don); as well as nephews, Evan and Kayle Luft, and Robert and Frederick Zotzman. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary; brother, Bill; and sister, Patsy.
Chris will be remembered for his sense of humour, smile, and the tune of his whistle. He was a hardworking man that took pride in his job and loyally served North American Construction Group for over 25 years. He was happiest when spending time with his family or out in the bush, camping, quadding and fishing. He was an exceptional man, father, and friend, respected and loved by many. Not a day will go by that his kids won't miss him and wish he were with them. They will look for him in the sunrise.
A Celebration of Chris' Life will be held in the banquet room at the St. Albert Inn & Suites, 156 St. Albert Trail, St. Albert, on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
Friends who so wish may make memorial donations directly to: Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T6G 9Z9.

My brother, Brian Nykyforak spoke of your dad with much respect and love. He was so sad when he passed on. Who would have known that Brian would join him in heaven within the year. It gives me much comfort to know that both of them are probably having a few laughs and possibly a beer or two. I hope that the pain of losing your dad one year ago today has subsided somewhat and that the wonderful and special memories sustain you forever.

I worked with Chris Turko on many oilsands projects dating back to the 1990's and we built many large structures together. Unfortunately,I have been largely out of touch with him for the last year and did not hear of his passing until recently. I am sorry to have missed meeting Chris again and sorry to have missed the memorial service. Chris was a great guy to work with and always had a great sense of humour. I read his "Job Description for a Superintendent" and almost fell off my chair laughing. What a hilarious and truthful example of his outlook on work and life. I had to copy this for future reference. I am privileged to have known and worked with Chris and will always rememember him. Rest in peace.
