Christopher Van Curan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 5, 2024.
Christopher Dexter Van Curan, aged 92, passed away on August 27, 2024, in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. Born on July 19, 1932, in New York, New York, Christopher led a fulfilling life marked by a distinguished career and a passion for various hobbies.

Christopher graduated from Middlebury College and furthered his education at Dartmouth Tuck School. His professional life was rich and varied; he cherished his time as the first AMC Hutman of Dolly Copp Campground, and later made significant contributions during his tenure at the Bank of Boston. He was a highly regarded professor of business at New England School of Acupuncture. An occasional writer, Christopher authored three books: "In the Attic of my Mind",co-authored with Bonzo Serizio, a collection of Reg Dinsmore's writings, and a book on Case Business Management. His engagement in community and leisure activities was evident in his membership in the Ski Club Hochgebirge, the oldest continuously operating downhill ski club in the United States and the Weary Club of Norway Maine.

Christopher embraced life with zest and was always eager to explore new experiences. His love of traveling brought much joy meeting new friends over an après-ski beer or wine and of course food. An avid enthusiast of skiing, fishing, and hiking, His love for the outdoors was paralleled by his joy in sharing these moments with family and friends, particularly at the Maine family camp on Lake Pennesseewassee, a place very dear to him.

Christopher is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Van Curan, his sister Jean Van Curan Pugh and his 3 children he had with Betsy Strong Kent. Ann Van Curan Johnson, Dirk Strong Van Curan, and Kristin Van Curan Nordblom, along with 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who will miss him deeply and cherish his memory.

A small family celebration of life is planned for the summer of 2025 at the family camp on Lake Pennesseewassee, reflecting Christopher's wishes for a private gathering at his favorite place.

While charitable donations are not necessary, contributions made to a charity of one's choice in Christopher's name would be a fitting tribute to a man who lived a life of generosity and kindness.
