Elizabeth Hoke Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 22, 2017.
Elizabeth Lee (Bragg) Hoke of Salida, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the age of 89.

Elizabeth was born on August 12, 1927, to Clyde and Jesse (Ford) Bragg in Kannapolis, North Carolina. She was married in Kannapolis on February 23, 1946, to Adam Lee Hoke after a whirlwind courtship and was a devoted and loving wife throughout their marriage. Although her years were filled with hard work, she enjoyed the contact with the public and only retired in 2002 when she was 75. Elizabeth spent much of her life in service to others, taking into her home both friends and relatives who needed a place to stay, often for extended periods of times. She also regularly visited family members in nursing homes and tended her husband in their home during his extended terminal illness. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Enochville in Kannapolis, North Carolina, serving for many years as treasurer and Deaconess. After retirement, she felt that staying busy and being useful were important, so she volunteered where she was needed. She regularly worked the Soup Kitchen at First Presbyterian Church in Salida, as well as Bus Stop Boutique, as long as she was able, serving at the Soup Kitchen as recently as six weeks ago.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Hoke, her parents, Clyde and Jesse Bragg, a brother, Jerry Bragg, and a nephew, Timothy Page.

She is survived by a sister, Margaret Baker of Kannapolis, North Carolina ; a brother-in-law, Don Karriker (Jean) of Ft Worth, Texas; a sister-in-law, Pam Perry (Martin) of Salida, Colorado; nephews: Greg Page (Tonya) of China Grove, North Carolina; Marty Perry (Susan) of St. Louis, Missouri; Ken Karriker (Kathy) of St. Charles, Missouri; nieces: Cindy Moore (Ron) of Kannapolis, North Carolina; Marla Longing (Chad) of Springdale, Arkansas; Debbie Kinney (Kirby) of Arlington, Texas; Donna Tomasi (Greg) of Fort Worth, Texas; numerous great nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

Arrangements are with Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Landis, North Carolina, with Memorial Service scheduled on June 29, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be beside her devoted husband of 63 years in Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove, North Carolina. On-line condolences to the family can be made at www.linn.honeycuttfuneralhome.com. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Salida, Colorado or the First Baptist Church of Enochville, Kannapolis, North Carolina, in Elizabeth's memory.
