I met Claire and Mike when I was only 16 years old and was hired to help move them from Jackson Heights to their new condo at 150 East 69th Street. Claire was a kind of surrogate Mother to me largely replacing my real one whom Claire rightly described as “out to lunch” in regard to parenting. Beyond both our love and life in the Arts, we played scrabble for countless hours and shared a love and respect for Nature that never waned. Over more than 40 years we actively spoke and shared activities, events and confidences. We had fun more of the time than not and shared more laughs together than with anyone before or since. She assumed the role of a grandma to my children and adored and respected my wonderful wife. That is how I remember Claire.

Linda: I just found out today about Claire passing away. My husband saw Ed today at St.Teresa's and he told him. My dad died on Feb 14th, so I wasn't looking at the paper. I will remember her laugh, and how much fun she was when she would visit Frances... God Bless her.....and God Bless you

Claire was my dear friend with whom I shared love, laughter, music and far too many to count good times and unforgettable moments over 41 years. She was a unique mix of sophistication down to earth, empathy, curiosity and artistry. We created and celebrated many of the best of times together, and we sometimes helped each other endure the darker times. Life was always an adventure with Claire. I was lucky to have shared so much laughter and uproarious joy with her! She was one of a kind and I will miss and remember her always.

Claire Alexander touched many people's lives in more ways than she ever realized. She had a rare gift, which was not only being a great singer and teacher of singing, but also being able to make every one of her students feel special. She was a fighter in every way. She would travel across town to teach her lessons even when she was in pain and barely able to walk. If a student couldn't get a note or phrase, Claire would think of all sorts of creative exercises and would spend as much time as it took, until the student succeeded. She cared very much about each of her students. She will be greatly missed.

Dear Linda,
I was shocked and terribly saddened to hear that Claire passed away. Ironically, I had been trying to contact her in Pittsburgh and was hoping to visit. Claire was a huge part of my life for a very long time. She was a teacher, mentor and friend for over 30 years. Not a day goes by that I don't reference her to my own students. It is the memory of her spirit, her energy, her laughter and her heart, that I will always carry with me. She was loved very much. My sympathies are with you.
Warmly,
Laury Tatz

Dear Linda:
I was saddened to learn of Claire's passing. She was a fabulous teacher to me. We also enjoyed a personal relationship and I will miss our dinners together and all the laughs we shared. She was so much fun to be around and I always enjoyed her stories. What a life.
Sincerely,
Monica Robinson

Dear Linda,
My whole family is saddened to hear that Claire passed away. We only heard late today (the 27th) so could not have a family member at her services, which we are terribly sorry about. Our thoughts and our sympathies are with you and her family. We will always remember Claire's joy in living - she gave us some great memories.
Fondly,
Kathryn Jason and family
